2-lane traffic bridge opens on Sheikh Rashid Road in Dubai

The bridge is 605 metres long

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has opened a new two-lane traffic bridge in Dubai City as part of the ongoing Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. The bridge, the second in a series planned for Phase 4 of the project, will ease traffic flow between the intersections of Al Mina Street and Sheikh Rashid Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road.

The newly opened 605-metre bridge is designed to accommodate 3,200 vehicles per hour and is part of a broader effort to improve traffic conditions along the busy corridor.

Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project includes the construction of four bridges, totalling 3.1km in length, and designed to handle approximately 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes. The first of these bridges was opened in December 2024. This bridge, which spans 1,335 metres, provides traffic relief, directing traffic from Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection, with a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour.

The project includes a third bridge, scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2025. This bridge will connect Al Mina Street to Al Wasl Road, with three lanes and a design capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour, spanning 780 metres. Another three-lane bridge with a similar capacity is also planned for the second quarter of 2025, facilitating traffic from Al Mina Street to the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road.

A new two-lane bridge spanning 985 metres is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2025. This bridge will provide additional capacity for traffic from Jumeirah Street towards Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection, supporting 3,200 vehicles per hour.

The scope of Phase 4 also includes significant roadworks. These include the development of 4.8km of new roads and improvements to surface intersections on Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street. The project will also see the construction of two pedestrian bridges—one on Sheikh Rashid Road and another on Al Mina Street—improving pedestrian access across the busy corridors.

The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project aims to address Dubai City’s growing infrastructure needs. The project is designed to enhance traffic flow and improve road capacity, ensuring smooth travel between key areas of the city, including Deira, Bur Dubai, Dubai Islands, and Port Rashid.

Once complete, the project is expected to reduce travel time along the corridor from 104 minutes to minutes by 2030, benefiting an estimated one million residents. This will also result in significant cost savings, with an estimated AED45 billion to be saved over the next 20 years due to reduced travel times. The project aims to improve traffic safety, reduce congestion, and support Dubai’s long-term urban and economic development.
