Azzera adds new ReFuelEU module to CELESTE platform to simplify compliance

To comply with EU mandate
Sustainability solutions provider Azzera has unveiled a powerful new module to help business and commercial aviation operators comply with the European Union’s (EU) ReFuelEU mandate.
This latest addition to Azzera’s CELESTE platform strengthens the company’s commitment to simplifying emissions management and sustainability compliance, offering a user-friendly, all-in-one solution for aviation operators.
The new ReFuelEU module is specifically designed to help operators navigate the complex requirements of the ReFuelEU mandate. This regulation, which focuses on reducing carbon emissions and improving the sustainability of aviation fuel, demands stringent reporting and monitoring practices.
The module provides operators an easy way to manage their sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) inventory, track fuel usage, monitor fuel sources, and handle certifications. A standout feature is its ability to automatically generate ReFuelEU compliance reports with just the click of a button, enabling operators to meet regulatory requirements quickly and accurately while reducing their administrative workload.
Another key feature of the module is real-time compliance tracking, visualised through a live dashboard that helps operators detect, monitor, and address any potential non-compliance. This ensures operators can proactively manage fuel usage and avoid penalties by staying on top of regulatory demands throughout the year.
The ReFuelEU regulation represents a significant shift in the aviation industry, moving from voluntary sustainability practices to mandatory regulatory compliance. One of the primary requirements under the mandate is the non-tankering rule, which aims to reduce unnecessary carbon emissions caused by aircraft carrying excess fuel to avoid refuelling at higher-cost airports.
Operators must uplift at least 90% of their fuel requirements when departing from EU airports, thus reducing the additional weight and associated emissions from carrying surplus fuel.
“The regulation brings significant changes that require operators to adapt quickly, address logistical challenges, and integrate new practices into their daily operations,” said Puja Mahajan, Founder and CEO of Azzera.
“Compliance with ReFuelEU can be complicated, and exemption requests must be thoroughly justified. This is where our new module comes into play. Our expertise in aviation environmental regulations ensures our clients are always ahead of the curve. They don’t need to build compliance and sustainability solutions – we handle that for them, so they can focus on what they do best.”
Azzera’s CELESTE platform goes beyond essential regulatory compliance. It is designed to take a comprehensive approach to emissions management, ensuring operators have the tools to comply with current regulations and reduce their environmental impact.
Over the past three years, Azzera has established CELESTE as a reliable and validated solution that supports operators in monitoring, managing, and mitigating carbon emissions. With ongoing support and training, CELESTE helps operators stay ahead of evolving environmental standards, offering a future-proof tool for emissions and SAF management.
“This new ReFuelEU module is another step forward in our commitment to enhancing CELESTE continuously, ensuring it remains adaptable to the rapidly changing regulatory landscape,” Mahajan said.
“In 2024 alone, Azzera helped our clients mitigate over 100,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. Our goal is to make sustainability as simple as possible, and that means constantly updating and refining our solutions.”
The ReFuelEU module is now live and available to existing CELESTE customers, who will gain access to this powerful new feature as part of their subscription. Several undisclosed operators are already using the system to ensure compliance with the new regulation.
CELESTE integrates smoothly with various flight scheduling systems, including Skylegs, Leon, AIMS, Vmo, and soon FL3XX. It can offer customised connection options where needed. This seamless integration ensures operators can manage compliance tasks without disrupting existing workflows.
