On December 15, 2024
The Cathay Group has achieved a significant milestone by carrying over 100,000 passengers on a single day for the first time since the start of its rebuilding efforts. On December 15, 2024, Cathay Pacific and HK Express, the Group’s two passenger airlines, welcomed 100,856 passengers, surpassing the 100,000-passenger mark on a single day.
The remarkable achievement was not a one-off. During the year-end travel peak, the Group surpassed the 100,000-passenger milestone on eight occasions, concluding 2024 on a high note. The period ending December 31, 2024, marked significant growth for the airline group, which had been focused on expanding its operations and services following the pandemic.
Cathay Group CEO Ronald Lam expressed excitement over this achievement: “We are thrilled to have concluded 2024 with yet another milestone. Thanks to the dedication of our people, the past year has seen unprecedented progress for the Cathay Group. A special thanks go to our global frontline teams for their tireless efforts during the holiday period, ensuring smooth journeys for our passengers.”
Cathay Pacific resumed seasonal services to Cairns, Australia, as part of its rebuilding journey and will launch new long-haul routes to Hyderabad, Dallas, Munich, and Brussels in 2025. Additionally, HK Express added Shizuoka, Japan, to its network and will soon begin services to Sendai.
The Group also celebrated its return to 100% of pre-pandemic flight levels in January 2025. By the end of 2025, Cathay Pacific and HK Express are projected to operate services to 100 destinations worldwide, marking another significant achievement.
Looking to the future, Hong Kong’s Three-Runway System will enhance the city’s status as a global aviation hub. Cathay Pacific remains committed to connecting Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, and the world. With a new chapter beginning, the Group is poised to continue its role as a significant force in international aviation.
