To showcase the industry’s future, the LAB will take centre stage, symbolising the significance of technological innovation within watch manufacturers.

The immersive experience will be a hub for startups, schools, and engineers to unveil the secrets of tomorrow’s watchmaking, making it particularly relevant to younger enthusiasts aspiring to pursue careers in the field.

For the first time, the general public can sign up for product presentations in small groups and exclusive guided tours led by watchmaking experts.

Watchmaking lectures

The show’s Auditorium will host a curated programme of 10 watchmaking lectures over the weekend, covering diverse themes such as economics, society, and technology.

Beyond Palexpo’s walls, the heart of Geneva will beat louder with the In The City programme, featuring cultural and educational activities in the new Watchmaking Village on the Pont de la Machine.

An evening celebration on April 11, open to all, will offer live music, DJs, and street performances, transforming the city into a horological spectacle not to be missed.

To fully embrace the evolving landscape of watchmaking, a brand-new LAB showcasing projects from students at Switzerland’s leading art and design university, ECAL, will present microtechnology, materials, and design innovations. The Agora meeting space will be intimate for smaller conferences and discussions.

Luc Debraine, former director of the Swiss Camera Museum, will unveil ‘Timekeepers,’ a captivating photo exhibition freezing watches and clocks in time, preserving the precious essence of memory.

Fine watchmaking continues to captivate enthusiasts and collectors alike in luxury timepieces, blending artisanry with cutting-edge technology.

Renowned watchmakers are pushing the boundaries of innovation, offering horological masterpieces that transcend mere timekeeping.

The epicentre

Switzerland, the default global epicentre of fine watchmaking, remains at the forefront of this prestigious industry. Traditional maisons such as Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Rolex continue to set the standard for precision and elegance.

Their unwavering commitment to artisanal techniques, combined with materials and engineering advancements, underscores Swiss watchmaking’s enduring appeal.

Global demand for haute horlogerie remains robust, with emerging Asian markets, particularly China, driving significant growth. The convergence of heritage and modernity is evident in the latest releases, where iconic designs are coupled with state-of-the-art complications and materials.

Collaborations between watchmakers and other luxury brands have become a prevalent trend, further expanding the horizons of fine watchmaking. Limited editions, often born from these partnerships, command attention and become highly sought-after collector’s items.

As the industry navigates the digital age, fine watchmaking is preserving its rich history and embracing technological advancements. Clever complications, materials science, and sustainable practices are becoming integral aspects of the evolving narrative, ensuring that the artistry of fine watchmaking remains timeless in the face of a rapidly changing world.

For the public

To enhance visitor engagement, Watches and Wonders Geneva will be open to the public for three days, from April 13 to 15, 2024, marking a significant shift in accessibility.
