DIPW launches ‘Scientific Translation’ and ‘Scientific Article’ workshops
The Dubai International Program for Writing (DIPW), a leading initiative by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), launched two groundbreaking workshops titled ‘Scientific Translation’ and ‘Scientific Article’ during its participation in the Cairo International Book Fair, held from 23 January to 5 February 2025.
These innovative workshops aim to encourage and support exceptional young talents in enhancing their writing skills, thereby fostering the next generation of researchers and innovators in the Arab world.
The ‘Scientific Article’ workshop is designed for those involved in journalism and media professions who specialize in writing scientific articles. It aims to train a group of young journalists interested in environmental and scientific topics and related subjects. The workshop further offers participants the fundamental language and research skills required to write articles across various topics, such as technology, medical sciences, and space sciences, among others. Participants of this workshop produce in-depth articles of at least 2,000 words, written in a clear, simple manner that is easily comprehensible to the average reader.
This workshop serves as an introductory platform for individuals who seek to explore scientific research and similar articles. This supports the development of human capital and aligns seamlessly with MBRF’s steadfast commitment to enriching the Arabic library with outstanding and accomplished researchers who possess valuable skills beyond literature. The goal is to utilize young talents’ skills and capacities to create a sustainable and innovation-driven intellectual community in the Arab world.
The ‘Scientific Translation’ workshop represents a vital part of DIPW’s initiatives. This workshop aims to provide training for participants in specialized scientific translation, equipping them with the necessary tools and skills to translate books alongside experts and professional trainers from various fields. It enhances participants’ abilities and skills, empowering them to create and share scientific content in Arabic. The primary objective is to make this content accessible to researchers, students, enthusiasts, and research centers.
His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, emphasized that the aim of these workshops is to bridge the gap between the academic and research needs of the workforce and the potential talents of the youth. H.E. stated: “Our objective is to establish a comprehensive ecosystem that promotes a culture of scientific excellence and equips young talents with the necessary resources for proficient academic writing and precise translation. This enables effective communication between Arabic materials and the international scientific community.”
H.E. added, “We firmly believe that investing in young minds is essential for revitalizing research, advancing scientific fields, and positioning Arab figures and thought leaders among international experts.”
The ‘Scientific Translation’ workshop reinforces MBRF’s unwavering dedication to enhancing the Arabic library with scientific content and supporting translators in their work. Through hosting translation workshops and publishing several important books, MBRF has built a strong reputation for providing opportunities to young, talented translators and for enabling Arabic readers to access a wide range of knowledge content.
DIPW continues to host workshops and launch events at the Cairo International Book Fair, reaffirming the MBRF’s dedication to promoting knowledge and nurturing academic and creative talents across diverse fields.
