Dubai night-swimming beaches attract 1.5 million visitors
In the last 18 months
Dubai Municipality has reported that its night-swimming beaches in Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, and Umm Suqeim 1 were visited by approximately 1.5 million visitors within 18 months of the three beaches’ night-swimming opening.
Ibrahim Juma, Director of Dubai Municipality’s Public Beaches and Water Canals Department, highlighted the significance of the high turnout at these night-swimming beaches.
He stated: “The initiative allows residents and tourists to enjoy the beauty of Dubai’s beaches at night, ensuring the highest levels of comfort, luxury, and quality of life.”
A key focus of the night-swimming beaches is accessibility. Juma noted that Dubai Municipality has taken significant measures to ensure these beaches are welcoming for people of determination and senior citizens.
Facilities such as floating chairs for swimming, trained rescue teams explicitly catering to their needs, and a fully equipped rest area designed for their comfort comply with the Dubai Universal Design Code. Furthermore, the technical features have been enhanced to ensure all visitors’ safety and security.
Dubai Municipality has implemented comprehensive services at the night-swimming beaches to enrich the visitor experience. Electronic screens display educational and public-awareness content, while advanced lighting systems allow safe swimming around the clock.
A qualified rescue team—an operations manager, an assistant operations manager, three rescue supervisors, and 16 trained lifeguards—is stationed at the beaches. This dedicated team, equipped with rescue tools and beach bicycles, ensures that all safety requirements are met and safeguards the well-being of beachgoers.
In addition to enhancing safety, Dubai Municipality has set specific hours for night swimming, allowing access from sunset to sunrise. This initiative uniquely positions Dubai in the Arabian Gulf region.
Establishing the night-swimming beaches in May 2023 reflects Dubai Municipality’s dedication to enhancing Dubai’s public beaches. This initiative aligns with the Dubai government’s vision to position the emirate as the best city globally for living, working, and tourism. Dubai Municipality looks set to enhance its public beach offerings further.
