Days ahead of the big race, Dubai Women’s Run organizer Dr. Harmeek Singh, Founder of Plan b  Group, unveils 5 key health benefits of indulging in everyday running.

Running reduces stress, depression & anxiety:

When you are depressed or struggle with anxiety or stress, exercise is probably the last activity on your mind. But that spur-of-the-moment motivation to get moving can make a significant difference. Exercising can release ‘feel-good’ endorphins concurrently, breaking you away from the cycle of negative thoughts that tend to feed depression and anxiety, according to the Mayo Clinic. Additionally, exercise has more than just physiological benefits, helping the person gain confidence and statistically working as one of the healthiest coping mechanisms.

Running improves your skin:

When we exercise, the blood pumps through our body, working our heart muscles and circulating blood and oxygen. Subsequently, this improved circulation leads to the skin cells being nourished by the additional blood flow, enhancing vitality and effective cellular repair and replacement. That’s not all! The invigorated blood flow is also the perfect medium for your skin to rid itself of toxins by delivering vital nutrients to a body’s cells.

Running reduces the risk of cancer:

Engaging in regular exercise is good for a plethora of reasons, one of which is to lower your risk of getting cancer. Studies suggest that indulging in more physical activity is associated with a lower risk of several types of cancer, including breast, prostate, colon, endometrium, and pancreatic cancer. This is made possible since physical activity can help regulate certain hormones that contribute to the development of cancer and help keep the immune system in check.

Running reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease & osteoporosis:

Regular physical activity, especially running is important for improving bone health and the most effective solution to prevent osteoporosis. Additionally, a study following first-time stroke patients found those who exercised before their stroke were two and a half times more likely to have a milder stroke than those who did not exercise. Weightlifting, jogging and running, hiking, step aerobics, and racquet sports are considered the best forms of exercise to ensure a healthy heart and bones.
