Dubai’s traffic incident management project set to expand
Dubai RTA and Dubai Police in new partnership
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (Dubai RTA), in collaboration with Dubai Police General HQ, has unveiled plans to expand the Traffic Incident Management Unit project in Dubai emirate by integrating four main road corridors by the end of 2024.
This expansion will increase the coverage from 13 to 17 traffic corridors and streets in Dubai, encompassing 951km in both directions.
The newly announced strategic alliance aims to enhance traffic management, enforcement measures, and overall road user experience, contributing to the city’s sustainable development.
The initiative aligns with Dubai RTA’s strategic objectives to minimise secondary road accidents, improve traffic flow, and facilitate the swift clearance of vehicles involved in accidents.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chair of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai RTA said: “The Traffic Incident Management project, in partnership with Dubai Police, offers exceptional services to motorists, including swift management of accident scenes and restoration of normal traffic flow.”
10-minute response
Under the project, specific locations across Dubai have been designated for deploying rapid response vehicles on major highways and critical roads. The aim is for a response time of 10 minutes and a clearance time of 15 minutes.
The expansion, initiated earlier this year, added six key corridors and streets to the project, including major thoroughfares such as Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.
By year-end, Ras Al Khor Street, Umm Suqeim Street, Expo Road, and Hessa Street will join the list, bringing the total to 17 corridors and streets.
Lt. Gen. Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, highlighted the strategic partnership between Dubai RTA and Dubai Police in enhancing traffic safety and operational efficiency.
He highlighted the significant reduction in traffic incidents and congestion through the project’s implementation in Dubai.
Lt. Gen. Al Marri also underscored Dubai Police’s commitment to cohesive operational systems and partnerships to achieve traffic safety goals.
The collaboration between Dubai RTA, Dubai Police, and other stakeholders underscores Dubai emirate’s commitment to becoming a city renowned for safety and stability, with a focus on preserving lives and property.
