Emirates Environmental Group conducts 2nd Day of ‘Clean UAE’ in two locations in the Country

The expedition of the 21st cycle of the Clean UAE campaign began sailing on December 5th from the Emirate of Ajman, and reached the Emirate of Fujairah on 7th December. The 2nd station of the campaign was conducted under the patronage of the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment with the Ministry of Community Development coming on board the campaign this year. Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation is the campaign partner in the Emirate of Fujairah who joined EEEG in the area behind the Friday Market – in Masafi.

Equipped with cotton gloves and bio-degradable garbage bags and wearing specially designed cotton T-shirts and Caps, 300 volunteers collected 500 kg of waste and covered and area of 2 km2. EEG team segregated the recyclable materials such as plastic, glass and aluminium from the total amount and sent them to local factories for recycling. A 2nd site was specially opened for the students of Our Own High School Al Warqa’a, where 1,200 students collected 1,570 kg of waste from a stretch of 3.5km2, thus bringing the total amount of waste collected on the 2nd leg to 2,070 kg.

EEG has taken up the motto ‘Together for a better Environment’ to unite people in unbiased ways for the cause of environmental protection and preservation” said Mrs. Habiba Al Mar’ashi, The Co-Founder and Chairperson of EEG in the opening ceremony.

She added “The excitement and enthusiasm grows exponentially every year as more and more people partake in this large-scale cross-sector programme that effectively promotes the importance of effective partnership in dealing with environmental challenges. We shall continue to strive to ensure a sustainable and green environment for future generations”

Ali Qassim – Director General of Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation said “We are pleased to cooperate with the Emirates Environmental Group in this effective national campaign, which reflects an important aspect of the country’s efforts to care for the environment and maintain its safety and cleanliness. The campaign sends a strong and meaningful message to the community about taking pride in the value of our environment and spreading awareness about protecting its beautiful natural resources.

We recognise the importance of the role of individuals and society as a whole and the impact that they can have through their behaviour and actions towards the environment and their willingness to make a positive change that is reflected in achieving the sustainable development goals of our country.”

Mrs. Al Mar’ashi expressed her deep gratitude to the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment for extending its patronage, strong backing and active participation by its employees in this campaign. She also thanked the Ministry of Community Development for coming on board this year and the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation. EEG ensures that while conducting its different programmes and activities it connects with global goals as well to be able to implement the “Think Globally, Act Locally” adage. Therefore the Clean UAE programme has been mapped in accordance with several UN SDG’s including Goal #3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal #11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; Goal #12: Responsible Consumption and Production; Goal #13: Climate Action; Goal #15: Life on Land and Goal #17: Partnerships for Goals.
