Emirates SkyCargo orders five Boeing 777 Freighters

Adding to five ordered earlier

Emirates SkyCargo has ordered five Boeing 777 Freighters, building on an earlier order for the same number. Finalised in September 2024, this latest acquisition raises Emirates’ total order book to 249 Boeing widebody aircraft, including 14 777 Freighters.

Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of the world’s largest international airline, is strategically planning to operate 21 777 Freighters in the coming years, nearly doubling its current fleet of 11 freighters. This move aims to enhance the airline’s capacity and flexibility in response to a booming demand for air cargo services.

“We’re investing in new freighter aircraft to meet surging demand and provide our customers around the world with even more flexibility, connectivity, and options to leverage market opportunity,” stated Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.

He emphasised that the growing demand reflects Dubai’s status as a premier global logistics hub, alongside the success of Emirates SkyCargo’s tailored solutions designed to meet the specific needs of various industry sectors.

The Boeing 777 Freighter can fly up to 9,200km (4,970 nautical miles) while carrying up to 102 tonnes of freight. This unique combination of range and capacity allows operators to maximise efficiency by connecting high-value cargo markets, such as those in the Middle East, directly to the US and Europe without the need for stopovers.

Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, highlighted Emirates’ pivotal role in shaping the industry, stating: “Emirates continues to set the direction for our industry, and we deeply appreciate the trust they have placed in the Boeing widebody family to serve as the backbone of their global fleet. We are proud to support Emirates SkyCargo’s growth as it relies on the performance and versatility of our 777 Freighter to connect the world further.”

Looking ahead, Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook forecasts that an additional 2,845 freighters will enter service globally over the next two decades, driven by increasing demands for trade and e-commerce.

The 777 Freighter has proven to be Boeing’s best-selling model, with 275 units delivered. This affirms Boeing’s position as the market leader in freighter aeroplanes. The company supplies over 90% of the worldwide dedicated freighter capacity, encompassing new production and converted aircraft.

Boeing continues to innovate in commercial aviation, defence, and space systems, servicing customers in over 150 countries. Its commitment to sustainability and community impact underscores its role as a top US exporter, leveraging a diverse global supplier base to enhance economic opportunities.

Boeing’s relationship with the Middle East dates back to 1945. Multiple offices have been established across the region, including in Riyadh, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Kuwait, reinforcing its longstanding ties and dedication to the region’s aviation growth.
