Etihad Airways to expand Abu Dhabi-Munich operations

From May 2025 onwards

Etihad Airways commemorates two decades of service between Abu Dhabi and Munich, with a significant expansion set to enhance connectivity from May 2025 onwards.

The Abu Dhabi-based airline has announced the introduction of double daily flights to Bavaria, underscoring its strategic initiative to increase service frequency to vital global hubs.

Since its inaugural landing of an Airbus A330 at Munich Airport in the summer of 2004, Etihad Airways has established itself as a steadfast presence in Bavaria, initially launching the Abu Dhabi-Munich route shortly after its inception. Today, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is servicing the route, symbolising Etihad’s commitment to delivering modern air travel experiences.

Etihad Airways’ decision to expand services to Munich underscores its commitment to meeting growing passenger demand and enhancing global connectivity, marking a significant milestone in its operational history.

Meanwhile, as Munich Airport gears up for its winter flight schedule commencing October 27, 2024, passengers can expect expanded access to a robust network spanning 180 destinations across 64 countries.

Lufthansa, Munich’s largest carrier, continues to offer frequent flights to global destinations like Sao Paulo, Seattle, and Johannesburg using advanced Airbus A350 aircraft. Additionally, Lufthansa and Emirates deploy the iconic Airbus A380 on routes to Los Angeles, Bangkok, Delhi, and Dubai, enhancing passenger capacity and comfort during peak travel seasons.

Discover Airline has unveiled plans to station long-haul Airbus A330 aircraft in Munich. Starting March 3, 2025, the airline will launch thrice-weekly services to Orlando, Florida. This expansion will further complement existing routes to Vietnam, with Vietnam Airlines expanding services between Munich, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Gulf Air and Oman Air are also expanding their winter schedules from Munich, with increased frequencies to Bahrain and Muscat, respectively, catering to rising demand for Middle Eastern destinations. Moreover, BeOnd Airlines has reintroduced services to the Maldives, offering premium all-business class flights twice a week from Munich Airport starting October 27, 2024.

Within Europe, Norwegian continues its seasonal flights to popular Spanish destinations while adding a unique route to Rovaniemi, Finland, the official hometown of Santa Claus, during the winter months.
