Fly direct from Abu Dhabi to Colombo from January 2024
Sri Lankan capital will be Air Arabia Abu Dhabi’s 39th destination
Low-cost carrier Air Arabia Abu Dhabi will launch three weekly direct flights from Abu Dhabi, UAE, to Colombo, Sri Lanka, effective January 3, 2024.
Colombo will become the low-cost airline’s 34th destination out of Abu Dhabi.
The flights will connect Abu Dhabi International Airport to Bandaranaike International Airport.
Launching the new flights from the UAE capital city to the Sri Lankan capital is part of the carrier’s global expansion strategy.
The airline – wholly owned by parent company Air Arabia in association with Etihad Airways – also aims to connect Abu Dhabi, the oil-rich capital of the UAE, to more destinations worldwide.
October 2019 start
Air Arabia Abu Dhabi began commercial operations with two Airbus A320-200 aircraft on October 16, 2019, and currently operates a fleet of 10 Airbus A320 single-aisle aircraft.
Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer Air Arabia, said: “We are glad to add Colombo to our growing network with direct flights from Abu Dhabi.
“Air Arabia Abu Dhabi continues its expansion strategy to strengthen the connectivity of the [UAE] capital with multiple destinations while contributing to the growth of the UAE’s travel and tourism industries.
“The new route enables passengers to discover the beauty of the island [Sri Lanka] located in the Indian Ocean and reflects our commitment to offering customers affordable and value-driven air travel experience,” Al Ali added.
Air Arabia Abu Dhabi competes with Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. This ultra-low-cost carrier also operates from Abu Dhabi International Airport, besides FlyDubai, the low-cost airline of Emirates Group that flies out of Dubai emirate.
Air Arabia, the parent company of Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, is listed on the Dubai Financial Market.
Founded in October 2003, it was the Middle East and North Africa’s first low-cost carrier and today flies to more than 155 destinations worldwide.
Operating an all-Airbus fleet of passenger aircraft, the only low-cost carrier in the Middle East to do so, Air Arabia operates from aviation hubs in the UAE, Morocco, and Egypt.
