More than 2.5 million Americans back to work as unemployment rate falls

The economy added 2.5 million new jobs in May and the unemployment rate declined to 13.3 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today as the country recovers from the coronavirus pandemic and businesses reopen.

In May, employment rose sharply in leisure and hospitality, construction, education and health services, and retail trade, the Labor Department said. Employment in government continued to decline sharply.
