Nestlé has hired more than 810 young people under 30 years old since January 2020, and provided internships to more than 230 during the period.
The announcement, made on International Youth Day 2021, comes at a time when youth unemployment rates in the Middle East and North Africa, already amongst the world’s highest at 29 percent according to the World Economic Forum, are being further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, with 87% of the region’s young people expressing concern about employment.
“We are very proud to be progressing in delivering on our commitment to support the career development of youth in the region, by offering various job opportunities that include internships and entry-level positions, along with newly designed training and learning paths that help equip young people with opportunities and skills to really succeed in their careers,” said David Moloto, Nestlé Human Resources Director in the Middle East and North Africa.
“We are focused on our promise to create at least 1,000 new jobs for people aged 30 and under by 2025, and are especially excited about the success of our recently launched Nesternships which will help us do that while providing innovative means to select and train talented young people on the increasingly important areas of digitization and environmental sustainability.” He ended.
“My internship at Nestlé has taught me to further appreciate the value of hard work, creativity, and perseverance,” said Soukaina Barmaki, an Agroeconomist from Morocco. “While my education had provided me with the knowledge needed to excel in my field, my Nesternship provided the know-how for my career launch by immersing me in practical skills and the opportunity to enhance my ability to work in teams.”
“I was selected for an internship at Nestlé’s Middle East and North Africa headquarters in Dubai in January, which led to me joining the company as an Internal Communications Specialist a few months later,” said Nema Malkawi. “I am thrilled to be working with the corporate communications team, and for the opportunity to engage with colleagues across the region to help bring Nestlé news and stories to life.”
Nestlé’s efforts are part of its Nestlé needs YOUth initiative, with actions in the Middle East and North Africa helping meet the company’s regional commitment to Foster Career Opportunities for Youth by enhancing skills, and promoting employability and career progression.
