Serco wins $97 million contract to support US naval shipyards
Also, a US military and veterans deal
Serco has secured a five-year contract valued at $97 million to support the US Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). The contract will see Serco provide programme management and business performance improvement services at four major US naval shipyards: Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Virginia, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Washington state, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Hawaii.
Additionally, Serco will offer its expertise at the Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Centre in Yokosuka, Japan.
Serco will focus on improving operational efficiency, safety, and programme success across NAVSEA-managed facilities as part of the agreement. The company will deliver expertise in areas such as LEAN process innovation, integrated product team and workforce development, programme management training, on-site project execution coaching, and support for environmental, safety, and health programmes.
These efforts are designed to enhance the US Navy’s shipyards’ operational performance and contribute to the success of critical naval programmes.
Mark Irwin, Serco’s Group Chief Executive, expressed pride in the company’s long-standing partnership with the US Navy and its commitment to supporting mission-critical programmes. He noted that this contract expands Serco’s capabilities in defence, including programme management and operational support, technical expertise, health and safety support, and workforce development.
In addition to its work with NAVSEA, Serco has won two additional contracts to assist US military personnel and veterans. The first, a $193 million contract with the Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Services (VETS), will provide career counselling and training for transitioning military service members.
Serco will offer employment readiness workshops, employer outreach, and support for approximately 200,000 service members annually across over 250 US military installations.
The second contract, valued at $33 million, will provide psychological health outreach services for US Navy Reservists. This programme, managed by the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, supports the mental health needs of Reservists returning from deployments and assists their families with long-term healthcare access.
Irwin highlighted Serco’s extensive experience supporting military personnel throughout their careers—from recruitment and training to transitioning back into civilian life—and stressed the company’s dedication to improving the future for those who serve.
