Star Alliance is the ‘World’s Leading Airline Alliance’
At World Travel Awards 2024
Star Alliance has been recognised as the ‘World’s Leading Airline Alliance’ for the fifth consecutive year at the prestigious World Travel Awards. The announcement was made at a grand final gala ceremony held in Madeira, Portugal, on November 24, 2024.
Earlier in 2024, during the North America edition of the awards in July, Star Alliance’s Los Angeles Airport Lounge was also named North America’s Leading Airport Lounge for the fifth year in a row, reinforcing its reputation as a leader in airport hospitality.
Star Alliance CEO Theo Panagiotoulias said, “We are incredibly honoured to receive the title of the World’s Leading Airline Alliance yet again. This enduring achievement reflects Star Alliance and member airline employees’ collective dedication and commitment to delivering seamless travel experiences. We also extend our deepest thanks to our valued customers for their continued trust and support.”
Now in its 31st year, the World Travel Awards recognise excellence in the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors. Winners are selected through a global poll with votes from qualified travel executives and consumer travel buyers.
Graham E. Cooke, Founder of the World Travel Awards, offered his congratulations and stated: “A heartfelt congratulations to Star Alliance for winning the ‘World’s Leading Airline Alliance 2024’.
“This outstanding accomplishment highlights how the organisation raises the bar in aviation alliances. Its dedication to providing customers seamless journeys – from booking and airports to connections and loyalty – is unrivalled. The dedication of the entire Star Alliance team is inspiring.”
In addition to the alliance-wide award, several Star Alliance member airlines received individual accolades this year, demonstrating the network’s strength and excellence. Member airlines were honoured in four categories: World’s Leading Airline to North America, Asia, Africa, and South America.
Star Alliance was founded in 1997 as the first truly global airline alliance to offer a global reach, worldwide recognition, and seamless service. Over the years, it has built the world’s largest and most comprehensive airline network, focusing on enhancing the customer experience across the entire travel journey.
With a combined network offering 17,500 daily flights to over 1,150 airports in 189 countries, the alliance includes 26 member airlines: Aegean Airlines, Air Canada, Air China, Air India, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Copa Airlines, Croatia Airlines, EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, Lot Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Swiss, Tap Air Portugal, Thai Turkish Airlines, and United.
The large Arabian Gulf carriers—Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, and Saudia—are not in the Star Alliance grouping.
