The Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) concluded the ‘Legislative Week 2022’, which was held recently under the theme ‘Legislation Stimulating and Supporting Future Economy’. The event brought together legal experts and specialists from government entities offering them a platform to enrich legal knowledge and raise legislative awareness through lectures, seminars, and brainstorming sessions. The event focused on developing sustainable and balanced government legislation that keeps pace with the ambitious vision for national development, and on sharing insights into the process for establishment of a legislative system that supports future economy.
The 2022 edition of the Legislative Week featured the Legislative Lab, a pioneering platform designed to increase awareness, share knowledge, and facilitate the exchange of best practices to foster legislative infrastructure in the Emirate of Dubai and support aspirations to build a more sustainable economy. Meanwhile, the lectures, seminars, and brainstorming sessions focused on several themes, such as Legislation Supporting Future Economy, Creative Economy, Metaverse, Virtual Assets, Virtual Currency, Consumer Protection in Digital Economy, and Assessing Legislative Impact.
Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar Al Muhairi, SLC Secretary General, said: “This edition of the Legislative Week was a significant step forward in our efforts to build a legislative system that supports and enables future economy. It presented a knowledge platform for discussing the mechanisms and efforts for developing future-proof legislation and the challenges impeding these efforts, and for exchanging ideas and insights on updating legislation to keep pace with the emerging trends in all fields. This year’s Legislative Week addressed several themes, including Metaverse, digitisation, adaptation of legislation to fast-paced developments, and the consolidation of joint efforts and collaboration with partners and stakeholders to develop legislation that supports future economy.”
Bin Meshar pointed out that the latest edition’s success motivates the SLC to move forward with its efforts to develop more agile, integrated, and proactive legislation that contributes to supporting the national development, future economy, and ambitious national strategies.
The Legislative Week 2022 concluded with the signing of an MoU between the SLC and the Dubai Future Foundation, creating a framework for institutional and law-focused cooperation in the areas of common interest. These include future legislation, building on the 2022 Legislative Week’s discussions, and establishing the pillars of future-oriented transformation.
