Telecom Egypt’s new firewall slashes scam calls by 90%
After implementing Enea’s voice firewall
Telecom Egypt has reported a drastic reduction in scam calls after implementing Enea’s advanced voice firewall. Since deploying this cutting-edge technology, the primary telecom operator in Egypt has successfully eliminated over 90% of incoming calls with spoofed caller IDs from its network.
Caller ID spoofing, a prevalent method that scammers use to deceive subscribers about the origin of calls, has long plagued telecommunications globally.
Telecom Egypt’s proactive approach with Enea’s voice firewall marks a pivotal step in safeguarding its subscribers against fraudulent activities.
Mohamed Al Fowey, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Telecom Egypt, stressed the strategic importance of protecting subscribers: “Improving end-user security to mitigate fraud and abuse in our network adds value to all our users. Enea is instrumental in our work to secure our network against voice call threats such as caller ID spoofing.”
The deployment of Enea’s firewall immediately identified and blocked more than 8% of all calls upon its introduction, effectively deterring fraudsters and prompting a steep decline in spoofed calls. This development underscores Telecom Egypt’s commitment to enhancing telecom security amidst rising global concerns over fraud attempts.
John Hughes, Senior Vice President and Head of the Network Security Business Group at Enea, highlighted the increasing threat of caller ID spoofing worldwide: “From the global threat intelligence we collect and analyse, we see an increase in caller ID spoofing worldwide, impacting millions of subscribers and businesses every year and eroding trust in communication systems.”
