Thales opens new avionics MRO facility in Gurugram for Indian airlines

To support India’s aviation growth

Thales has opened its new avionics Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Gurugram, a bustling city near New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

This initiative aligns with India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ or ‘Self-Reliant India’ vision, showcasing Thales’s investment in India’s growing aviation sector. The new facility will offer essential avionics services, including maintaining and repairing critical components, primarily for India’s airlines, such as Air India and IndiGo.

The inauguration ceremony occurred on March 21, 2025, in the presence of Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Indian Minister of Civil Aviation, who expressed appreciation for Thales’s contribution to India’s aviation industry.

The event was further marked by the presence of high-ranking officials from both the French Embassy and the Indian Government, including Damien Syed, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of France in India, as well as senior representatives from Thales, led by Yannick Assouad, Executive Vice President of Avionics, Thomas Got, Vice President of Aviation Global Services, and Gilles Bono, Vice President of India operations.

Establishing Thales’s Gurugram facility is a testament to the growing synergy between India and France in the aerospace sector. It underpins Thales’s strategy to expand its footprint in the Indian market and offer world-class services to local airlines.

The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and staffed by highly skilled engineers who will provide tailored solutions to meet the specific needs of Indian airlines. Thales aims to deliver high-quality, timely, and cost-efficient services, contributing to the growth of India’s aviation market while ensuring enhanced operational efficiency and safety standards for airlines operating in the country.

Thales’s investment in this cutting-edge MRO centre is part of the company’s broader strategy to support India’s rapidly expanding aviation sector. India’s aviation industry has seen remarkable growth in recent years. With the Indian government’s emphasis on self-reliance, there is a growing demand for high-quality, locally available aerospace services.

Thales’s new facility will play a pivotal role in meeting this demand, reducing the reliance on overseas MRO services, and helping to elevate India’s position as a key player in the global aviation market.

During the inauguration, Naidu lauded Thales for its commitment to establishing an advanced MRO facility on Indian soil. He remarked: “My heartfelt appreciation goes to Thales for setting up this dedicated facility in India to provide onshore MRO services to our airlines.

“Taking a tour of the facility and seeing it firsthand, I must say that I am deeply impressed by the meticulous planning and innovation that have gone into creating this centre. The inauguration of this advanced avionics MRO centre marks a significant milestone for Indian aviation and a proud moment for Thales in India. This facility exemplifies our collective commitment to building a self-reliant India and a self-reliant aviation ecosystem under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

In his address, Naidu also highlighted the importance of harnessing India’s vast talent pool to drive innovation in the aviation sector. He encouraged greater Indo-French collaboration in the aerospace industry, emphasising that such initiatives would contribute to the growth of India’s aviation ecosystem and foster deeper bilateral ties between the two nations.

The Gurugram MRO centre will serve as a vital hub for avionics repair and maintenance, ensuring that Indian airlines receive the best support and service to maintain the highest safety and efficiency standards.

As Thales continues to expand its operations in India, it remains committed to helping shape the future of Indian aviation and supporting the country’s vision of becoming a self-reliant and competitive player in the global aviation market.
