The Hive’s Theatre Festival 2024 promises to captivate audiences with a vibrant celebration of creativity and imagination in Dubai City.

As the largest children’s festival in the Middle East, this month-long extravaganza, organised by The Hive, showcases the talents of young performers and invites families to immerse themselves in the magic of live theatre.

With 700 children taking to the stage in 66 shows featuring a variety of plays, the festival aims to delight over 5,000 audience members throughout May and June 2024.

Embracing a spirit of inclusivity, The Hive’s Theatre Festival offers free admission to all, embodying its mission to make theatre and the performing arts accessible to children across the Middle East region.

“The Hive’s Theatre Festival celebrates youthful creativity and expression. We believe in the power of theatre to inspire and enrich young minds, and our festival is a testament to that belief,” said a spokesperson at The Hive.

“By providing a platform for children to showcase their talent and imagination, we hope to instil a lifelong love for the arts.”

The festival lineup features an array of captivating plays designed to appeal to audiences of all ages. From whimsical tales of adventure to thought-provoking dramas, each production promises an unforgettable experience for attendees.

Here is a glimpse of what is in store:

  1. Elephant in my Kitchen: Follow Ally, Zeeks, and Zo as they encounter a series of unexpected visitors in their home, including an elephant, a rhino, and a tiger. Suitable for ages six and up.
  2. The Witches: Join a young child and their grandparent as they uncover a sinister plot involving wizards and witches during a seaside getaway. They are recommended for ages seven and up.
  3. Goldilocks on Trial: Delve into a hilarious courtroom drama as Goldilocks stands trial for breaking. With the accused’s fate in Judge Wallabee’s hands, audiences are in for a wild ride. Ideal for ages nine and up.
  4. Evan: Explore themes of identity and acceptance in this poignant play about a young man’s journey to find his place in the world. It is recommended for ages 12 and up.
  5. How to Overthrow Your Student Government: Join Jen on a comedic journey as she plots to overthrow the school government with Julius Caesar’s help. This witty satire is suitable for ages 11 and up.
  6. Inside Out & Upside Down: Experience the emotional rollercoaster of adolescence through the eyes of 11-year-old Riley, whose life is turned upside down by a move—a heartfelt exploration of human emotions for ages seven and up.
