Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Celebrates 13th Cohort Graduation in Archives and Records Management
Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with the National Library and Archives, proudly celebrated the achievements of 23 professionals from prominent UAE and GCC government entities during a graduation ceremony held on October 26 at the University’s library. These graduates completed the Professional Certificate in Archives and Records Management program, marking a significant milestone in their careers and underscoring the UAE’s commitment to advancing excellence in digital governance and records management.
The ceremony for the 13th cohort was attended by esteemed guests including His Excellency Abdulla Majed Al Ali, Director General of the National Library and Archives and Professor Nathalie Martial-Braz, Vice-Chancellor of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. Together, they emphasised the critical role of records management in supporting transparent and efficient governance across the UAE and the wider region. An address from Major Ahmad Saeed Al Kamda, Batch 11 Representative from Dubai Police, further inspired graduates and attendees, highlighting the importance of this program and its contributions to innovation in both the public and private sectors.
Following the speeches, His Excellency Abdulla Majed Al Ali and Professor Nathalie Braz presented the certificates to the graduates and congratulated them.
His Excellency Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Director General of the National Archives and Library, emphasised in his speech the importance of this professional certification, which has established its value and proven its effectiveness in enriching the knowledge of its graduates. This is evidenced by its expanding scope and the participation of several attendees from the gulf countries. The positive results are clearly reflected in the work of graduates from previous courses, showcasing their excellence. This distinction has elevated the course’s status, positioning it alongside other academic programs and ensuring its sustainability in delivering modern and advanced archival sciences that enrich communities’ knowledge. His Excellency Abdullah Majid Al Ali congratulated the graduates and urged them to fulfill their national responsibilities in preserving the documents that make up the nations’ archives, which safeguard our glorious history and rich heritage; as they are a vital national trust.
Professor Nathalie Martial-Braz, Vice-Chancellor of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, said: “The Professional Certificate in Archives and Records Management program, offered in collaboration with the National Library and Archives, reflects Sorbonne Abu Dhabi’s mission to equip professionals with the expertise to manage and preserve critical records. The graduating class comprises professionals from a range of key government entities, including Abu Dhabi Airports, Abu Dhabi Investment Office, Abu Dhabi Media Network, Abu Dhabi Pension Fund, Department of Government Enablement, National Library and Archives, Ruler’s Representative Court Al Dhafrah, the UAE Space Agency, Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, Bahrain Petroleum Company, and the National Center for Archives & Records in Saudi Arabia. Their diverse backgrounds reflect the growing recognition of records management as a vital profession within the public sector.
The intensive six-week program, jointly developed by Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and the National Library and Archives, included both academic coursework and practical training. Students gained hands-on experience at the National Library and Archives Centre for Preservation and Restoration, learning from experts in the field to ensure they are prepared to lead in archival and records management roles.
