Boeing delivers O3b mPower satellites to SES

As high-speed internet access enablers

Boeing has delivered the 7th and 8th O3b mPower satellites to SES, marking another significant milestone in expanding the O3b mPower constellation. These two new satellites, equipped with Boeing’s advanced software-defined communications payload, are scheduled for launch from Cape Canaveral in December 2024.

These satellites will join the fleet of six O3b mPower satellites already in orbit and deliver high-speed, low-latency connectivity worldwide.

“We’ve worked closely with SES from the start of this program, and we moved quickly to manufacture these latest satellites,” said Michelle Parker, Vice President of Boeing Space Mission Systems. “We look forward to seeing them enter service and continue to provide unparalleled service to SES users.”

The O3b mPower satellites feature a first-of-its-kind software-driven integrated payload array technology, which allows for adaptable connectivity with high-frequency re-use, significantly improving efficiency.

The satellites can generate over 5,000 fully steerable beams, allowing SES to allocate bandwidth and power dynamically to specific regions or customers as needed.

Milton Torres, SES’s Chief Technology Officer, said: “With the system fully operational, we’re thrilled to bring these additional satellites into orbit and strengthen our constellation. This will enable us to meet the growing demand for high-quality connectivity services across multiple sectors.”

The satellites enable high-speed internet access for a wide range of users, whether on land, at sea, or in the air. This includes applications such as video streaming, remote work, and supporting critical enterprise operations. The system’s adaptability ensures seamless connectivity across diverse environments and challenges.

Boeing continues to manufacture, integrate, and test the remaining O3b mPower satellites, with plans to deliver the following three satellites in the first half of 2025.
