Nissan/NMC unveils 2025 motorsports lineup

Targeting electrification, carbon neutrality

Nissan Motor and Nissan Motorsports & Customizing (NMC) have revealed an extensive plan for their 2025 motorsports campaigns, highlighting their commitment to electrification, carbon neutrality, and customer racing support.

The announcement outlines Nissan’s participation in top-tier racing events, including the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and Super GT, and continued support for customer racing teams across multiple platforms.

Formula E: Pushing Boundaries in the Seventh Season

Nissan continues to make significant strides in electric racing with its involvement in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Season 11 of the all-electric series marks Nissan’s seventh year, with the team keen to maintain its competitive edge. This season’s key highlight is the introduction of the GEN3 Evo regulations, which bring several improvements, including a new, more muscular body kit and all-wheel drive, making it the fastest Formula E car yet.

Oliver Rowland, who secured a win in Mexico City earlier this season, will pilot the #23 Nissan e-4ORCE 05, while Norman Nato will race the #17 car. Rowland’s triumph in the opening rounds underlines the team’s optimism for a successful campaign this season following a strong 2024 performance.

Super GT: Four Teams Aim for Championship Glory

In the highly competitive Super GT GT500 class, Nissan’s NMC division is fielding four teams to clinch the championship with the Nissan Z NISMO GT500. This move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Nissan’s presence in motorsports. Management duties for the Nissan teams have been divided between key figures: Shinichi Kiga will oversee technical aspects such as vehicle development. At the same time, Toshikazu Tanaka will manage operational and sporting matters.

The four teams are NISMO NDDP (Team No. 3), Team Impul (No. 12), NISMO (No. 23), and Kondo Racing (No. 24). Each has a lineup of top drivers from Japan and beyond. For the season ahead, the teams will rely on Bridgestone and Yokohama tyres, and each has unveiled new and striking liveries for its Nissan Z machines.

Customer Racing Programmes: Expanding the Reach of Nissan Motorsports

Nissan/NMC is also dedicated to supporting customer racing through various GT3 and GT4 programmes. In the Super GT GT300 class, Nissan will provide technical support to several partner teams running the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3. This includes well-established names like Kondo Racing and Helm Motorsports and up-and-coming squads like Nilzz Racing and Runup Sports. Nissan/NMC also supports teams in the Super Taikyu Series ST-X class, GT World Challenge Asia, and the SRO Japan Cup, ensuring its presence across key motorsport competitions.

In addition to the GT3 efforts, Nissan will offer support for its GT4 programme, where the Nissan Z NISMO GT4 will compete in the Super Taikyu Series ST-Z class, GT4 America Series, and GT America Series. Teams like Team Zeroone and the raffinée Nissan Mechanic Challenge are gearing up for a competitive season with the Nissan Z machines.

Support for Other Motorsports Categories

Beyond its headline programmes, NMC will also lend its expertise to other competitions. Notably, the Fairlady Z (RZ34) will race in the Super GT GT300 class under the management of Gainer Co., Ltd., while two Fairlady Z NISMO RCs will compete in the Super Taikyu Series ST-3 class. These efforts underline Nissan’s dedication to broadening its motorsports presence, offering technical and logistical support to various teams.

Further Engagement with Fans and Drivers

Nissan is also committed to enhancing fan engagement and driver development through various initiatives. The Nissan Mechanic Challenge, a collaboration with the Nissan Automobile Technical College, aims to foster the growth of future racing mechanics by allowing students to work alongside professionals in the Super GT GT300 class and Super Taikyu series. The challenge provides a unique opportunity for hands-on learning and technical skill development.

Additionally, Nissan will continue its popular NISMO Driving Academy, offering driving lessons for owners of NISMO road cars like the Nissan GT-R, Fairlady Z, and Skyline 400R. These lessons cater to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced drivers, and provide a platform for participants to experience their cars’ full potential in a controlled circuit environment.

Nissan’s fan appreciation event, the NISMO Festival, will also return this year. It will allow fans to get close to the cars, drivers, and teams that define Nissan’s motorsport legacy.

Looking Ahead: A Year of Challenges and Achievements

As Takao Katagiri, the CEO of NMC, stated: “Nissan/NMC will continue to take on new challenges and changes with maximum effort this year.” With a clear focus on electrification, customer racing, and delivering thrilling motorsport experiences, 2025 is set to be another exciting chapter for Nissan in motorsports. The company is determined to continue driving forward, pushing boundaries, and inspiring fans around the globe.
