UAE Traffic Update: Major Morning Gridlock Grips Highways Across Emirates

Commuters across the UAE faced a challenging start to the week as severe rush-hour congestion brought traffic to a crawl on major highways leading into Dubai. Motorists travelling from Sharjah, Ajman, and other northern emirates reported significant delays, with real-time traffic data confirming widespread slowdowns across several key routes.

The heaviest congestion was observed on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) and Emirates Road (E611)  two of the UAE’s busiest arteries connecting Sharjah and Ajman to Dubai. On E311, vehicles were moving at a stop-and-go pace from the Sharjah border, with extended bottlenecks stretching through the Muhaisnah and Mirdif corridors.

Similarly, long queues built up on E611 as traffic from Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, and Umm Al Quwain converged towards Dubai. The recent enforcement of new traffic regulations including dedicated lanes for trucks and delivery motorcycles in Sharjah and other emirates may also be contributing to the slower flow as motorists adjust to the changes.

Within Dubai itself, congestion intensified along major city highways. Sheikh Zayed Road (E11), the city’s central lifeline, saw particularly heavy traffic between the World Trade Centre and Dubai Marina. Al Khail Road (E44) also experienced significant delays, especially near Dubai Festival City and Business Bay, while feeder roads in Al Quoz and Al Barsha faced localised gridlocks due to high vehicle density.

Traffic authorities have urged motorists to plan ahead, use live navigation tools for real-time updates, and consider alternate routes where possible. Drivers are also reminded to follow dynamic speed limits displayed on electronic signboards to ensure smoother traffic flow and maintain safety amid the congestion.

With the week’s commute off to a slow start, officials advise early departures for those heading to work in Dubai and patience as traffic gradually eases through the mid-morning hours.
