Viory, the video news agency of the Global South, delivered an intensive workshop, “News Video Verification and Using AI Tools in Media” to the next generation of journalists at the University of Sharjah’s College of Communication, reinforcing its regional leadership in verification, digital literacy and newsroom skills.
Led by Zois Bekios Zannikos, Viory’s Head of Verification, the session equipped students and aspiring media professionals with practical techniques for verifying news videos, identifying manipulated content, and integrating AI-powered tools into their reporting workflows. The workshop forms part of Viory’s ongoing collaboration with the University of Sharjah, following the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the two organisations earlier this year.
The session was designed to enhance media literacy, strengthen student reporting capabilities, and demonstrate how AI-driven verification can elevate editorial accuracy across fast-moving news environments. Viory’s continued engagement with universities across the UAE reflects its commitment to building stronger media ecosystems and empowering the journalists of tomorrow.
Zois Bekios Zannikos, Head of Verification at Viory, said: “Verification is no longer a specialist skill. It is a core requirement for every journalist working in media today. Our partnership with Sharjah University allows us to equip future reporters with advanced tools and critical thinking techniques they can apply from day one in the field.”
Prof. Jairo Alfonso Lugo-Ocando, Dean of the College of Communication, added: “Today’s workshop underscores why our partnership with Viory matters. Students gain early exposure to cutting-edge newsroom practices and learn directly from experts shaping the future of video journalism.”
The workshop is part of a broader education roadmap aimed at encouraging universities across the region to integrate verification modules into their curriculum. Viory will certify all students who participated, contributing to stronger standards across the industry and enabling emerging journalists to enter the workforce fully prepared for the demands of modern digital news.
