Etihad Rail has unveiled full details of the UAE’s national passenger rail network, confirming it will connect 11 cities and regions across the country by 2026. The announcement marks a major milestone in the nation’s transport and infrastructure development, delivering the UAE’s first fully integrated passenger rail system.
The network is designed to strengthen connectivity between the Emirates while providing a safe, reliable and efficient travel option for citizens, residents and tourists.
Earlier in 2025, Etihad Rail revealed four main passenger stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah. On Thursday, the company announced the remaining stations, located in Al Sila, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, Mezairaa, Al Faya and Al Dhaid. The stations will be commissioned in phases as the network expands.
Integrated national transport system
Eng. Ezzah Al Suwaidi, Executive Vice President for Passenger Services at Etihad Rail, said preparations for the 2026 launch reflect the UAE leadership’s vision for a fully integrated national transport system.
She noted that the passenger network builds on the success of Etihad Rail’s freight operations, which began in 2023, and forms a core pillar of the country’s transport ecosystem. The trains are equipped with advanced technologies and have been developed in partnership with leading international operators to meet high safety and reliability standards.
Al Suwaidi added that the trains showcase a strong Emirati identity and represent a long-term national investment that will support domestic tourism and enhance quality of life.
Passenger comfort and capacity
The new passenger trains feature ergonomic seating, modern interiors, onboard Wi-Fi and power outlets at every seat. Services will operate on fixed schedules, offering a fast and dependable alternative to road travel.
Eng. Mohammed Al Shehhi, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, said station locations were selected in coordination with local authorities to ensure convenient access from residential areas and key economic hubs.
Each train can carry up to 400 passengers, with the network expected to serve around 10 million passengers annually. Ten of the 13 passenger trains have already arrived in the UAE and successfully completed safety testing.
Journey times and future plans
Estimated journey times include 57 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, 105 minutes to Fujairah, and 70 minutes to Al Ruwais. Once operational, passenger services will link destinations from Al Sila in the west to Fujairah on the east coast.
Etihad Rail confirmed that passenger operations will officially begin in 2026, with safety and service quality remaining top priorities.
The company also reported continued progress on its high-speed rail project, which is expected to cut travel time between Abu Dhabi and Dubai to just 30 minutes at speeds of up to 350 km/h. The project is projected to contribute Dh145 billion to the UAE’s GDP over the next 50 years.
