Oman Announces Eid Al Fitr Holiday from March 19 to 23

Oman has officially announced the Eid Al Fitr holiday for employees in both the public and private sectors, with the break scheduled from March 19 to March 23, 2026, according to an official government announcement.

Authorities confirmed that work will resume on March 24, following the conclusion of the five-day holiday period across the Sultanate.

The extended break is expected to allow families across Oman to gather and celebrate one of the most significant occasions in the Islamic calendar. Eid Al Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is traditionally observed with special morning prayers, family visits, charitable giving, and festive meals shared with relatives and friends.

The occasion also highlights values such as compassion, gratitude, and social solidarity, reflecting the spirit of generosity encouraged during Ramadan, when Muslims fast from dawn until sunset.

Expected Eid Date

Astronomical projections suggest that Ramadan this year will likely complete 30 days in most countries, making Friday, March 20, 2026, the expected date for Eid Al Fitr. However, the final confirmation will depend on the official sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon by religious authorities.

Earlier, Oman had announced that Thursday, February 19, 2026, marked the first day of Ramadan in the Sultanate. In contrast, several other Gulf countries began fasting a day earlier, on Wednesday, February 18.

Because of this difference, if Eid is confirmed on March 20 across the region, Oman would complete 29 days of fasting, while countries that started Ramadan earlier would observe the full 30 days of fasting.

As customary across the Islamic world, the exact date of Eid Al Fitr will ultimately be determined through the official moon-sighting process conducted by the relevant authorities.
