Alicia Keys hosts ‘Women to Women’ initiative in Jeddah
Profound issues affecting women discussed
Renowned American artist, songwriter, and activist Alicia Keys was in Jeddah on March 8, 2024, as she spearheaded the third edition of her ‘Women to Women’ initiative.
The event witnessed an unforgettable impromptu collaboration between Keys and Jeddah’s music sensation Yasmin AlBitar. They performed a soul-stirring rendition of Keys’ classic hit, ‘If I Ain’t Got You.’ The performance left the audience spellbound, as they had gathered in the Saudi city to discuss profound issues affecting women.
Marking International Women’s Day on March 8, the exclusive gathering unfolded at Bet Zenel, nestled within the historic precincts of AlBalad, symbolising a homage to feminine strength and resilience.
The event served as a platform for six influential Saudi women to spotlight women’s transformative strides in the Gulf country and globally.
Uplifting narratives
Against the backdrop of Jeddah’s culturally rich milieu, known for its embracing ethos, these women shared narratives of empowerment and change.
“My music has connected with women worldwide, resonating with themes of strength and resilience,” said Keys. It is an honour to engage with the women of Jeddah, to listen, learn, and lend support. True wisdom lies in listening.”
The panel comprised a diverse spectrum of trailblazers embodying the spirit of progress in Saudi society:
- Noura Bint Sadan: A visionary artist renowned for her transformative murals adorning Khobar’s urban landscape.
- Mishaal Ashemimry: A pioneering figure in aerospace engineering and commercial aviation, bridging frontiers with her expertise.
- Huda Beydoun: An artist and photographer who illuminates untold stories of resilience, including the journeys of undocumented immigrants in Saudi Arabia.
- Raha Moharrak: A trailblazing mountaineer who defied the odds to become the first Saudi woman to conquer Mount Everest and several other peaks.
- Cosmicat: A trailblazing DJ and producer, breaking barriers in the male-dominated music industry.
Moderating this powerhouse assembly was Hessah Alsanea, a creative luminary and cultural connector renowned for her innovative approach.
Keys wore fashion from the Saudi luxury brand Hindamme, designed by Mohammed Khoja.
