Aramex is live testing Google Maps-powered last-mile deliveries in UAE
Aramex, a leading global logistics services and transportation solutions provider, has begun the live testing phase for its last-mile deliveries in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), based on Google Maps Platform Mobility services.
Google Maps Platform Mobility services run transportation and logistics operations for businesses across the globe.
With operations in 65+ countries, Dubai-headquartered Aramex has partnered with OniGroup, a Sydney, Australia-based Google Premier Partner and business technology specialist, to integrate the Google Maps Platform Mobility services solution on a trial basis into its last-mile delivery operations in the UAE.
Phased GCC rollout
On successful completion of the ongoing beta phase, Aramex plans to roll out the digital-first logistics solution in a phased manner to all its last-mile deliveries in the GCC region, with a full-scale launch targeted for the first quarter of 2024.
The app-based solution will be available for download on Google Play, and App Store.
Featuring Aramex’s own geocoder, which utilises machine learning and predictive AI to predict and generate precise delivery coordinates with the highest accuracy to increase delivery precision, the new capability leverages the core strength of Google Maps to enable certain Aramex customers to track the live location status of Aramex couriers from the last five stops until a shipment is delivered to the target customer’s doorstep.
Detailing how the new last-mile delivery system works, Aramex noted that specific customers will receive a digital notification on the morning of a scheduled day of delivery, which they can then use to track the real-time delivery status of their shipment; receiving the expected time of delivery, accurate and dynamic to road traffic and other delivery operational factors.
Once fully implemented, the last-mile delivery feature will allow Aramex customers to plan their daily schedule more efficiently, instead of their having to spend an undue amount of time awaiting the delivery of their shipment by Aramex.
‘Live tracking pioneer’
Alaa Saoudi, Chief Operating Officer (Express) Aramex, said: “We are proud to pioneer live tracking with last-mile delivery in the GCC, boosting digital touchpoints for our customers, and improving their experience with Aramex.
“We are confident that once this solution is fully functioning, it will provide additional peace of mind while allowing our business and individual customers to utilize their time more productively,” Saoudi added.
German Cardenas Garcia, Head of MEA, OniGroup, stated:” It is great to see logistics providers making a difference and investing to improve the customer and courier experiences across the [GCC] region. We are excited to be working with Aramex on this fantastic project.”
Aramex states it is the first logistics company in the GCC region to begin live testing of last-mile deliveries in the region using Google Maps Platform Mobility services.
Google Maps Platform Mobility services offer the following capabilities via APIs and SDKs:
- Addresses and location context
- Route planning and dispatch
- Driver routing and navigation
- Task tracking
