Boeing appoints Dana Deasy as Chief Information Officer
He succeeds Susan Doniz
Boeing has announced Dana Deasy as its new Chief Information Digital Officer and Senior Vice President of Information Technology and Data Analytics. Effective December 31, 2024, Deasy oversees all information technology, security, and data analytics areas. He reports directly to Kelly Ortberg, Boeing’s President and CEO, and serves on the company’s Executive Council.
Ortberg praised Deasy as a “well-respected, global technology leader,” highlighting his success in implementing innovative technologies in complex organisations.
With cyber threats growing and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence rising, Ortberg emphasised the importance of Deasy’s leadership in strengthening IT operations to meet safety, quality, and customer delivery goals while positioning Boeing for the future.
Deasy has over 40 years of experience in various industries. His most recent role was Chief Information Officer at the US Department of Defence. Before that, he held senior positions at JPMorgan Chase, BP, and General Motors. Deasy succeeds Susan Doniz, who left Boeing late last year.
Founded over a century ago and based in Seattle, United States, Boeing designs and manufactures various commercial jets, including the 737, 767, 777, and 787 families. It is also a key player in the military and space sectors.
It recently celebrated the legacy of its iconic 747 jets, which revolutionised air travel. With operations spanning 150 countries, Boeing’s $100 billion annual sales solidifies its status as a driving force in aviation technology and a vital component of the aerospace industry.
Recently, Boeing has faced several significant challenges, including grounding its 737 MAX due to fatal crashes. The issue stemmed from a design flaw in the aircraft’s software, leading to tragic accidents. Boeing’s troubles also traced back to decisions made decades ago, with management’s failure to mitigate outsourcing risks affecting the company’s quality control and product development.
