Canadian University Dubai partners with Dubai Holding Entertainment in ‘Shelter of Inclusivity’

Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has partnered with Dubai Holding Entertainment (DHE), to showcase a one-of-a-kind art installation named ‘Shelter of Inclusivity’. The interactive artwork was first unveiled at last year’s Dubai Design Week and will be on display at Riverland Dubai throughout February.

The installation, which has been supported by social enterprise, ImInclusive, champions accessibility and celebrates the unique contributions of the People of Determination (PoD) community. Brought to life with the expertise of faculty from CUD’s School of Architecture and Interior Design, the Shelter of Inclusivity focuses on accessibility, sustainability, and meaningful design. ImInclusive collaborated closely in the design to connect with the PoD community, ensuring their involvement from concept to final execution.

At the heart of Shelter of Inclusivity lies a powerful call to action, encouraging guests of all abilities to experience a space intentionally crafted to symbolise protection, acceptance and equality for all. Designed with intention, the piece is built with sustainable materials and incorporates colors and artwork that echo the strength and spirit of the PoD community. With its curved walls, the installation evokes the imagery of protective arms, and the use of purple tones pays homage to the PoD community.

Every element has been carefully designed to prioritise accessibility and serves as a powerful call to action, inviting individuals, employers, and communities to recognize and create opportunities for People of Determination. With its purposeful design and universal accessibility features, the installation aims to challenge stereotypes, and spark conversations around disability inclusion. During its initial display at Dubai Design Week, visitors were encouraged to share their own inspirational messages of how the UAE and the city of Dubai have impacted their own journey.

Speaking about the installation and the collaboration with Dubai Holding Entertainment and ImInclusive, Dean of the School of Architecture and Interior Design at Canadian University Dubai, Mr. Massimo Imparato said, “We are honoured to collaborate on this meaningful project. Shelter of Inclusivity embodies our shared values of social responsibility and inclusivity, and we are excited to see it bring Dubai’s community together.”

Ms. Hafsa Qadeer, CEO and Founder of ImInclusive, added “Inclusion comes to life when everyone feels valued and welcomed in an environment. Partnering with Dubai Holding Entertainment, Canadian University Dubai, and the Emirates Down Syndrome Association to create this installation was a testament to the power of true collaboration. Designed with People of Determination at its core, this space invites reflection, conversation, and connection. At ImInclusive, we believe inclusion isn’t just about accessibility – it’s about belonging – and when we design with intention, we create a world where everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered.”

Alanood Al Hashemi, VP of Organisational Culture and Impact, at Dubai Holding Entertainment said, “Inclusion is not just a responsibility; it’s an opportunity for innovation and growth. At Dubai Holding Entertainment, we are dedicated to continuously improving the accessibility of our spaces, ensuring that everyone feels valued and welcomed. I am incredibly proud of this partnership and its lasting impact, hopefully inspiring others to champion meaningful change in the space of disability inclusion.”

Mr. Imparato concluded, “The curriculum at CUD offers students the opportunity to get involved in meaningful community initiatives like this and to gain hands-on experience through industry-informed projects and regional design competitions. The next intake of admissions this

Fall semester will open the doors to these kinds of opportunities for the designers of tomorrow.”
