Laurent Ferrier unveils reimagined Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue

To mark 15th anniversary
In 2016, Swiss luxury watchmaker Laurent Ferrier introduced the Galet Traveller Globe Night Blue, a stunning timepiece that marked a remarkable interpretation of Earth as seen from space at night.
Featuring a translucent enamel dial, the timepiece became an emblem of the brand’s artistic mastery and dedication to craftsmanship. Nearly a decade later, Laurent Ferrier has chosen to breathe new life into this iconic creation to celebrate the brand’s 15th anniversary. The result is the reimagined Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue, which features an entirely new and refined enamel dial that takes the piece to new aesthetic heights.
The 2016 edition of the Traveller Globe was distinguished by a dial featuring an intricately engraved white gold base, with oceans depicted in translucent blue enamel and continents enhanced by gold glitter.
The new 2025 version boldly departs from this, showcasing a more refined aesthetic through miniature painting. The continents are now cloaked in opaque blue enamel, highlighted by even more intense specks of gold enamel, adding a sophisticated minimalism to the overall design.
At the heart of the dial lies a convex planisphere, crafted in 18K white gold and cloaked in deep blue enamel. The five continents are meticulously highlighted, surrounded by a vast ocean in the same rich hue.
The challenge of this creation is evident in the execution of the champlevé enamelling technique, where enamel is painstakingly applied to the three-dimensional gold surface, creating the illusion of a globe. As seen from space at night, the world’s lights are subtly hand-painted using enamelled gold, which starkly contrasts the dark oceans and adds an air of ethereal beauty.
Beyond the visual spectacle, the dial also exudes a heightened depth and dimensionality. The outer hour circle, finished with a circular satin-brushed surface in slate grey, gives the impression that the central globe is hovering above the dial. The drop-shaped hour indices, crafted in white gold, extend outward, further enhancing the three-dimensional effect of the design.
Despite the extraordinary craftsmanship and intricate design, the Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue has been designed with globetrotters in mind. The timepiece combines its striking aesthetics with user-friendly functionality, especially its innovative dual time zone system.
Two oblong pushers, located discretely on the left side of the case, allow for the quick adjustment of local time. A simple press moves the central hour hand forward or backwards by one hour without affecting the minute hand’s position. This ensures the wearer can easily switch between time zones while maintaining accuracy.
Furthermore, the date at 3 o’clock adjusts automatically at midnight, and the aperture at 9 o’clock retains the reference home time. The 24-hour display ensures that the day/night distinction is clear, enhancing the timepiece’s practicality.
The Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue is powered by the LF 230.02 automatic movement, which features a dual time zone mechanism and an integrated date function. For improved efficiency, the movement boasts a unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor with a double direct-impulse natural escapement. The escapement’s direct impulses ensure excellent precision, delivering an impressive 72-hour power reserve.
As with Laurent Ferrier’s timepieces, the movement is crafted with the utmost attention to detail. The decoration of the LF 230.02 calibre includes rhodium-plated Côtes de Genève and circular graining. At the same time, the intricate bevelled edges and hand-polished screw heads highlight the brand’s commitment to the finest traditional watchmaking techniques.
The Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue case is a masterpiece in itself. Made from 18K white gold, the 41mm case features a transparent sapphire crystal case back, allowing the wearer to admire the movement’s exceptional artisanry. The 18K white gold ball-shaped crown and deep grey Nubuck leather strap complete the elegant look.
The strap, hand-stitched with tone-on-tone topstitching and lined with Alcantara, ensures both comfort and sophistication, while the pin buckle or double-blade folding clasp adds a final touch of luxury.
With its exquisite craftsmanship, reimagined design, and enhanced functionality, the Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue is a true testament to Laurent Ferrier’s mastery of watchmaking and artistic expression. It is a worthy celebration of the brand’s 15-year legacy.
