Constant van Paesschen Tops the Podium in CSI2* Longines Grand Prix at Emirates Jumping Cup

The penultimate day of the Emirates Jumping Cup saw four competitive classes, culminating with the CSI2* Longines Grand Prix 1.45m, which featured 50 riders vying for top honours.

With only seven clears in the first round, it was Belgian rider Constant van Paesschen aboard Ganturano that clinched the Grand Prix in a time of 41.14s, just pipping Ireland’s Shane Breen to second place in 41.52s riding BP Arctic Blue. Mohamed Shafi Mohamed Alremeithi put in a strong performance to finish in third place, just a fraction of a second slower in a time of 42.55s.

The CSIJ UAEERF Junior Stakes 1.25m class had 14 starters, with only three producing clear rounds. Layth Ghrayeb of Syria was the quickest of the clears, delivering a precise round in 56.69s on Elite de Ponts. The talented 18-year-old junior has racked up several wins on the 11-year-old mare this season, including the CSI4* W 1.25m class in Abu Dhabi last month. Mohamed Majed Sultan Al Awani Alnuaimi and Doolin Bay OLD jumped into second place in 61.83s for the UAE, followed by compatriot Mohammad Saeed Al Ghurair and Corlyska, who finished in third in 65.43s.

The CSICh Cavalor Children’s Stakes 1.10m class featured 16 riders with just two clear rounds.  14-year-old Indian rider Mysha Khan claimed first place riding Aarti Tandon’s Clinturo, stopping the clock in 63.39s. This is Khan’s first win on the 14-year-old gelding sired by Clinton II. Emirati rider Ayesha Saeed Al Ghurair jumped a faultless second round in a time of 74.83s to take second place, while Canadian rider Hamzah Jamal Almahamid finished third in the quickest time of 58.09s aboard Jasmine, despite a rail down.

The CSI2* Abu Dhabi Sports Council Classic 1.35m had a strong field of 64 riders, but Irishman Shane Breen and Z7 Ipswich delivered the lightning-fastest clear in a time of 33.51s to secure the top spot. The UAE’s Saeed Mohammed Al Maazmi followed in second place, jumping clear aboard Mrs Annelie in 36.23s. Egypt’s Amr Gamal Mohamed rounded out the top three with a clear round on Faroso W in 36.67s.

The competition concludes tomorrow, starting with the CSICh Cavalor Children’s Cup at 09:00 am, followed by the CSIJ Al Forsan International Sports Resort Cup. The much-anticipated CSI05* Longines League of Nations™ gets underway at 13:30, seeing 11 teams—the qualified 10 nations and the UAE team—battle for the €700,000 prize and a place in October’s final. Following the LLN, the CSIO5* Al Shira’aa Challenge wraps an intense four days of world-class competition from 19:00.

For show jumping enthusiasts, last year’s winning team member, David Will, will be doing a live course walk with English commentary at 12:35, followed by the athletes’ parade with an Arabic twist. Z7 show horses will be back to wow the crowds with a display of equestrian artistry at 16:00, showcasing their latest liberty act.
