Dubai to host the world’s largest Airport Show in May 2024
Global airport projects to reach $1.8 trillion by 2030
The 23rd edition of Airport Show – the world’s largest annual event dedicated to the global airports industry – will be held at Dubai World Trade Centre from May 14-16, 2024.
With 150 exhibitors hailing from 20 countries and an anticipated attendance of 7,500 visitors from 30 countries, the Airport Show will also feature co-located events – ATC Forum, Airport Security Middle East, and the 11th edition of the Global Airport Leaders Forum.
Organised by RX, a part of RELX, a global provider of information-based analytics and decision tools, the Airport Show will be supported by Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Airports, Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, and Dnata.
May Ismail, Event Manager at RX, said: “The airport industry will be back to full business when we meet in 2024. The pace of growth and expansion halted is back phenomenally.”
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chair of Dubai Airports, Chair and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, and patron of the Airport Show, highlighted the event’s significance for industry professionals in the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa region.
He emphasised the opportunity to explore innovations in airport sustainability, digitalisation, and urban air mobility.
As the civil aviation industry recovers from the pandemic’s impact, airports worldwide are preparing for a surge in air travel until 2030, with substantial investments in expansions and redevelopments.
The Middle East aviation market, valued at $60 billion in 2023, is predicted to rise significantly until 2030.
Dubai International Airport, consistently the world’s busiest for nine years, is investing up to $2.7 billion in capacity and facility enhancements.
Other airports in the Middle East region, such as Sharjah, Jeddah, Neom, and Abha, are also undergoing significant expansions to accommodate growing passenger numbers.
Saudi Arabia’s King Abdelaziz International Airport is set to become one of the world’s largest airports, while Oman anticipates handling 40 million passengers by 2030. Lebanon, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, and India are among the countries investing in airport expansions and improvements to meet growing demands.
With global airport construction reaching $1.14 trillion in 2023 and projected to reach $1.8 trillion by 2030, the airport industry is poised for transformation.
Asia-Pacific leads in airport infrastructure projects, with China aiming to construct 216 new airports by 2035.
A recent study by Oliver Wyman, Airports Council International World, and the Sustainable Tourism Global Centre predicts that airports will be core drivers of industry-wide change in the next 30 years.
