EAGLE FINISH SEES HØJGAARD TAKE HALFWAY LEAD ON DAY 2 OF THE DP WORLD TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Nicolai Højgaard continued his strong start to the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, with a second round 66 that sees him atop the leaderboard on 11 under par going into the weekend. A stunning finish saw the Dane sink an eagle putt on the 18th hole after a birdie on the 17th, to follow up yesterday’s round of 67 and move into a two shot lead.

Fellow Ryder Cup stars Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland lead the chasing pack, along with Jens Dantorp, Thriston Lawrence – who fired the round of the day with a 64 – and Antoine Rozner, all tied on nine under par. Race to Dubai winner Rory McIlroy went round in level par to finish in a tie for 34th on one under par for the tournament, while world number three Jon Rahm finds himself tied in 13th place on six under.

Heroes of Hope visit

As part of its commitment to making golf more inclusive and accessible to all, the DP World Tour again partnered with local non-profit organisation, Heroes of Hope – a sports academy for people of determination – ahead of this year’s DP World Tour Championship. Heroes of Hope athletes received a series of one hour golf lessons in the lead up to the tournament and were invited to attend today as part of the Community Day celebrations. In addition to watching the on-course action and enjoying the Championship Village, the athletes tested their golf skills in a trick shot challenge on the range.

Community Day

While last night’s wet weather added life to the on-course proceedings, the Championship Village was again a hive of activity on the event’s Community Day. With an entertainment schedule tailored for the masses, there was a fresh and fun festival-like atmosphere throughout the day. The Trick Shot Boys wowed crowds with gravity defying skills on the main stage among a plethora of other activities; from arts and crafts to a jam-packed schedule across circus, magic and music shows, featuring live music from Dubai-based artist Lexie.
