Edge and Leonardo sign new collaboration agreement

To develop critical domain solutions

Edge, a UAE-based advanced technology and defence group, and Leonardo, a global industrial group based in Italy skilled in aerospace, defence, and security, have signed an agreement to enhance further their partnership in developing solutions across six critical domains.

The agreement seeks to strengthen existing synergies and capitalise on new complementary opportunities for deeper cooperation, focusing on delivering innovative solutions for national and international markets.

The agreement, signed at the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) 2025 in Abu Dhabi, establishes a strategic framework for the UAE market while advancing a global export strategy. It outlines a comprehensive plan to enhance synergies, facilitate knowledge exchange, and optimise specialised resources, all in a bid to capitalise more effectively on emerging opportunities.

The agreement also lays the groundwork for a structured partnership focused on jointly marketing these advanced products and solutions to governments across multiple countries. One of the key features of the collaboration is the commitment to developing shared intellectual property (IP) and fostering future design innovations, ensuring that both parties are well-positioned to lead the market in emerging defence technologies.

This collaboration focuses on key domains, including airborne capabilities, emphasising radar technology for multi-mission aircraft, anti-tactical ballistic missile defence, counter-drone and mobile surveillance systems, naval combat management systems, radio communications, and optotronics commander sight. These areas are vital for the future of defence technologies and are in high demand in domestic and international markets.

Hamad Al Marar, Edge Group Managing Director & CEO, said: “This important step marks the next phase in our existing strategic agreement with industry leader Leonardo, building on the opportunities presented by the strong relationship between the UAE and Italy.

“Fundamentally, it reinforces our vision of growth through mutually beneficial partnerships, ensuring a win-win approach to sourcing and realising complementary multi-domain opportunities worldwide. This collaboration will expand these synergies for continued economic growth, innovation, and excellence, all supporting the sustainable preservation of security.”

Lorenzo Mariani, Co-General Manager of Leonardo, added: “We are deeply honoured and thrilled to collaborate with Edge Group, aiming to establish unprecedented industrial capabilities for national and export requirements.

“The sectors identified as pillars of this joint strategy are becoming increasingly important in an evolving market and operational scenario. That is why we believe joining forces in these fields will deliver the capabilities required by the UAE and other export markets.”

This strategic collaboration represents a major step in the diversification and expansion of Edge and Leonardo’s portfolios, which now encompass airborne, terrestrial, naval, and cyber solutions.

By leveraging their combined expertise and resources, both groups are positioning themselves to take on the challenges of a rapidly evolving defence landscape to deliver cutting-edge, complex, and disruptive systems that meet the growing demands of international customers.

The collaboration is expected to significantly enhance Edge and Leonardo’s capabilities, strengthening their position as leaders in the global defence industry while contributing to the continued security and technological advancement of nations worldwide.
