FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem discusses the importance of Motorsport

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem was present at the 2023 British Grand Prix, which takes place over 52 laps of the 5.891-kilometre Silverstone Circuit. Ben Sulayem met with Rt. Hon. Mark Harper MP, UK Secretary of State for Transport and the Rt. Hon. Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the house of Commons at the British Grand Prix. Chairman of Motorsport UK and FIA WMSC Member, David Richards, was also present in the meeting.

The concerned parties discussed a future cooperation in motorsport and mobility and a potential future engagement of the FIA with the UK Government.

Lastly, they elaborated on the fact that the motorsport industry plays a significant and beneficial role in the UK economy by contributing to various sectors and generating non-negligeable economic benefits to the country. These benefits include employment opportunities (including the engineering, manufacturing, R&D, event management sectors…), hospitality and tourism, manufacturing, and export revenue. Motorsport can also fuel the UK’s economic activity thanks to its catalytic role in contributing to innovations and technological advancements as well as its motorsport-related education programs and apprenticeships that help develop talents supporting the growth of the industry.
