FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem visits King Felipe VI of Spain in Cordoba
In line with the FIA AGA Meeting and the 2023 FIA Conference – gathering more than 410 delegates, from 171 clubs coming from 123 countries – held in Cordoba this week, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem paid a visit to King Felipe VI of Spain.
The President praised Spain for its vibrant Motorsport and active FIA clubs, including RACE, RACC, and RFEdA. He also spoke highly of Spanish drivers, many of whom have outperformed in various FIA Championships, the likes of Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz Junior and Senior, and Albert Costa, to name a few.
Moreover, President Ben Sulayem placed Spain at the heart of Motorsport in Europe, thanks to its premium venues and prestigious competitions, announcing that FIA will be holding their 2nd FIA Motorsport Games in Valencia, between the 23rd and 27th of October, 2024. The latter will cover 7 disciplines, with teams coming from FIA clubs around the world.
The President also seized the day to present the FIA campaign on online abuse, “United Against Abuse”, highlighting that it was prompted by an unfortunate incident involving Spanish steward, Silvia Bellot, last year.
Following the meeting, FIA President commented: “It was an honour to welcome and have an audience with His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain to our annual conference in Cordoba where he graciously met with our World Councils and Senate. We had the pleasure of discussing the future of mobility and the passion of the Spanish people for motor sport. On behalf of the whole FIA family, I would like to thank His Majesty, our host Club, Real Automóvil Club de España, the Real Federación Española de Automovilismo, the Region of Andalusia and the City of Cordoba for making this meeting possible in these amazing surroundings.”
