Geobear unveils its ground stabilisation tech in the UAE
Ideal for a wide range of projects
Geobear, a global leader in ground engineering based in the United Kingdom, has launched its advanced ground stabilisation operations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This marks a significant development in the hydrocarbon-rich Arabian Gulf country’s infrastructure capabilities.
The benefits of Geobear’s ground stabilisation technology are extensive. The technology minimises disruptions to ongoing operations by utilising small, specialised teams. It eliminates the need for excavation work or temporary structures, ensuring a seamless and efficient process.
Geobear’s ground stabilisation technology is faster than traditional methods and highly adaptable. Its versatility makes it ideal for many projects, from residential to large-scale infrastructure developments, showcasing its ability to meet diverse project needs.
Geobear’s ground stabilisation technology is backed by various certifications, including those from BBA, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001. These certifications are a testament to the top-quality and reliable solutions that Geobear provides to its clients, building trust and credibility in the industry.
Soil stability
The UAE’s construction market is on a robust upward trajectory, with projections estimating an increase from $41 billion in 2024 to over $50 billion by 2029. This surge in activity underscores a growing need for effective and non-disruptive ground stabilisation methods. Geobear’s entry into the UAE addresses this demand with pioneering technology designed to enhance soil stability.
Dr Mohamed Wehbi, Business and Technical Director at Geobear, said: “Given the UAE’s rapidly expanding infrastructure, there is a growing need for non-disruptive ground stabilisation methods.
“Geobear is committed to supporting the UAE’s infrastructure development by aiding geotechnical engineers in filling ground cavities and improving soil based on geological conditions alone. The goal is to contribute to sustainable urban development, improve efficiency, and create a world-class infrastructure that aligns with the country’s long-term vision.”
Compelling solution
Geobear’s ground engineering technology offers a compelling solution to natural soil cavities, rising water tables, and ageing infrastructure challenges.
Notably, it reduces carbon emissions by up to 70% compared to traditional ground engineering techniques, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to green building practices and global sustainability initiatives. This alignment with sustainability goals is a testament to Geobear’s dedication to environmental responsibility.
The company’s approach involves injecting an expanding geopolymer resin through tiny tubes to compact soil and fill voids efficiently. Depending on project size, this method minimises site disruption and can be completed swiftly, often in as little as one day.
“Our technology effectively addresses common geotechnical challenges in the UAE, including soil washouts and the effects of rising water tables, without the need for heavy equipment or lengthy downtime,” said Wehbi.
“By extending the lifespan of infrastructures and reducing maintenance needs, we are providing long-term, environmentally friendly solutions.”
A recent application of Geobear’s technology in the Jebel Ali Free Zone Area in Dubai for Fugro, a global leader in geo-data services, showcased Geobear’s efficiency and effectiveness. The technology stabilised the ground beneath a sensitive facility without causing any disruption in normal operations.
“Geobear’s approach allowed us to maintain continuous operation of our facility while efficiently addressing our ground stability issues,” said David Duguid, Facility Manager at Fugro.
“We faced significant challenges with our low voltage substation subsiding, and Geobear’s cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions stood out. Their approach not only prevented operational disruptions but also future-proofed our facility.”
Geobear’s entry into the UAE is set to play a pivotal role in some of the country’s most ambitious projects, including the Dubai Metro’s Blue Line project. The company’s rapid and effective ground stabilisation solutions are well-suited to support these landmark developments.
“Our entry into the UAE is strategically planned to support major infrastructure development and align with the UAE’s smart city ambitions,” added Dr Wehbi.
With over 40 years of experience, Geobear is at the forefront of innovative technology in ground stabilisation and is dedicated to delivering sustainable and efficient solutions for a diverse range of infrastructure projects.
In addition to the UAE, Geobear operates in the UK, Sweden, Finland, Poland, China, and the US.
