Ignited Olympic Flame Continues Journey

Paris 2024 Olympics Begins On July 26

In a poignant ceremony steeped in history and symbolism, the Olympic flame for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics was lit at the birthplace of the ancient Games in Olympia, Greece.

The Olympic Games Paris 2024 begin on July 26 and will continue until August 11. The Paralympic Games 2024 will occur from August 28 until September 8

With less than 80 days left until the much-anticipated event, the flame was ignited, embodying the spirit of peace and hope characterising the Olympic movement.

The flame’s journey commenced in Ancient Olympia, kindled on April 16, 2024, amidst the ruins hosting the revered athletic contests of antiquity. The flame traversed Greece from there, carrying the torch of unity and aspiration before reaching France.

Among the distinguished attendees at the historic occasion were notable figures such as International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and Paris 2024 Organising Committee President Tony Estanguet.

Global Harmony

Addressing the gathered crowd, Bach emphasised the significance of the Olympic Games in fostering global harmony and human excellence. He spoke of the Games as a beacon of hope in troubled times, uniting people across nations and cultures.

Estanguet echoed Bach’s sentiments, affirming France’s readiness to host the Games and emphasising their commitment to delivering an event that embraces inclusivity, sustainability, and equality.

The ceremony not only celebrated the symbolic lighting of the flame but also acknowledged the efforts of Paris 2024 in realising the objectives set forth by the Olympic Agenda 2020. Through initiatives like ‘Games Wide Open,’ Paris 2024 aims to create a lasting legacy of engagement and progress.

Following its ignition in Olympia, the flame embarked on a journey across Greece, carried by a relay of torchbearers representing the Olympic spirit. It was transferred from Athens to French soil, commencing a nationwide journey culminating in the grand Opening Ceremony in Paris on July 26.

As the countdown to the Paris 2024 Olympics continues, the flame is a poignant reminder of the enduring values of peace, unity, and excellence at the heart of the Olympic movement.
