Israel to get 25 F-15 fighter jets from 2031 onwards
Deal with Boeing is worth $5.2 billion
Israel’s Ministry of Defence has signed a landmark contract with Boeing to acquire 25 next-generation F-15 fighter jets worth $5.2 billion at list price, with an option for 25 more of the advanced aircraft.
The first F-15 deliveries are due to commence in 2031 at a rate of four to six aircraft per year.
In an announcement on November 6, 2024, the ministry said the deal is covered by a US aid package that the US administration approved earlier this year.
The precise version of the F-15s destined for the Israeli Air Force was not revealed. Still, the aircraft will feature increased operational range, carry heavier payloads and be equipped with advanced Boeing weapons systems that integrate with Israel’s own advanced weapons assets.
According to an Israeli Ministry of Defence statement: “This F-15 squadron, alongside the third F-35 squadron procured earlier this year, represents a historic enhancement of our air power and strategic reach—capabilities that proved crucial during the current war.”
The ministry added: “These advantages will enable the Israeli Air Force to maintain its strategic superiority in addressing current and future challenges in the Middle East. “
The Boeing F-15EX, also known as the Eagle II, is the latest evolution of the legendary F-15 series. It is designed to be a versatile and future-proof multirole fighter aircraft.
Developed primarily for the US Air Force, the F-15EX incorporates modern avionics, advanced weapons capabilities, and improved payload capacity, offering unique speed, range, and flexibility in modern air combat scenarios.
It builds on the airframe of the F-15E Strike Eagle but with significant upgrades, including digital flight controls, enhanced radar, and the ability to carry the latest weaponry, such as hypersonic missiles.
With a payload capacity of 13,300kg, the aircraft can perform air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, ensuring dominance in various operational environments.
Countries that operate F-15s in their air forces include the US, Japan, Israel, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar.
