It’s All Been Done Before
After a resounding run last year, Third Half Theatre brings back an evening of some of Dubai’s most celebrated original shorts. Multiple award-winning plays rub shoulders with plays that have travelled to Delhi and to LA, in addition to performing in Dubai at The Junction, DUCTAC, The Madinat, The Emirates Litfest, and the Sikka Art Fair. Written and Directed by Dubai based playwright Sanjeev Dixit, each play is its own unique microcosm, and put together the show is a mélange of emotions.
Known for his experimental modern pieces, Sanjeev’s style is marked by a physicality coupled with humour which evokes a classic sense of the theatre as a craft and an art form. A mainstay of the Dubai theatre community for twenty years now, Sanjeev feels this show is a nostalgic return to some old favourites. “After a fantastic run last year, and the way theatre in Dubai is flourishing, this feels like the perfect time to bring back the show.”
The genres of the plays range from comedies and dramedies to tragedies to farces, socially relevant pieces, musicals and even what amounts to a horror-suspense piece. “What’s interesting is how the newer generation has embraced these plays,” says Sanjeev. “From cast members as well as the audience, the overall response has been universally positive. It’s overwhelming really, to have this kind of response to pieces written and developed right here in Dubai.”
Founded in 2012, Third Half Theatre champions original theatre in Dubai. A two-time winner of the Short+Sweet Dubai festival, it has performed internationally, including at Hollywood’s Stella Adler Theatre, Delhi’s Kamani Auditorium, and this year at Mumbai’s NCPA and the Opera House.
Get set for an evening of fun, laughter, poignance, and reflection. Reconnect with the magic of the theatre with some of Dubai’s best talent collaborating to bring you an unforgettable night out.
