Korean Air unveils virtual human inflight safety video

Presentation captures passengers’ attention through safety briefings

Korean Air has launched a unique inflight safety video featuring virtual humans. This innovative video showcases a virtual flight attendant, donned in Korean Air’s signature uniform, delivering crucial safety instructions within a meticulously designed virtual setting.

By embracing this novel concept, Korean Air aims to connect with its diverse clientele from various ages and cultural backgrounds.

The sleek and visually captivating presentation captures passengers’ attention and enhances their engagement levels throughout the safety briefing.

Korean Air began showcasing the cutting-edge safety video across all its flights, alongside its release on the airline’s official YouTube channel (@koreanair) on January 4, 2024.

Elevating the onboard experience

Beyond mere compliance, this initiative underscores the airline’s commitment to ensuring passenger safety while elevating the onboard experience.

Marking a significant milestone, Korean Air becomes the first airline in South Korea to integrate virtual humans into its inflight safety video programme. The virtual personalities featured include Rina, crafted by Netmarble F&C’s Metaverse Entertainment, and the four-member virtual girl group MAVE.

This virtual space facilitates a clear and comprehensive explanation of inflight safety protocols, set against the backdrop of the ‘Korean Air Safety Lounge,’ meticulously adorned with aircraft motifs.

Notably, Rina, equipped with safety training from Korean Air’s Cabin Crew Training Centre, assumes the role of an honorary flight attendant, guiding passengers through essential safety procedures. Meanwhile, MAVE members embody passengers, demonstrating adherence to safety instructions.

The video covers vital topics such as carry-on luggage storage, seatbelt fastening, smoking regulations, and emergency protocols, making it an indispensable guide for the airline’s passengers.

Korean Air emphasises the fusion of aviation expertise with digital innovation, aiming to redefine inflight safety videos as relatable and engaging passenger experiences.

Exceptional collaboration

A Korean Air spokesperson expressed enthusiasm for this groundbreaking collaboration between the aviation industry and digital technology, envisioning it as a paradigm shift in inflight safety communication.

This bold endeavour signifies Korean Air’s dedication to enhancing passenger safety and satisfaction through innovative means.

Crafted by Netmarble F&C’s Metaverse Entertainment, Rina debuted in January 2022, leveraging state-of-the-art 4D technology to replicate lifelike facial expressions and movements. Embraced as a virtual influencer and Gen Z digital creator, Rina garners popularity across social media and brand endorsements.

Debuting in January 2023 with their hit single album ‘Pandora’s Box’, MAVE comprises four virtual members: Siu (leader/main vocalist), Zena (lead vocalist), Tyra (main rapper/dancer), and Marty (dancer/rapper). With millions of streams and music video views, MAVE captivates audiences with their dynamic performances.
