Metzeler’s Andrea Verona crowned world champion

In E2 Class at Welsh GP

The Welsh GP, a highly anticipated round of the FIM Enduro World Championship, concluded last weekend in Rhayader, Wales, marking a significant milestone in the 2024 season.

In an exhilarating display of skill and endurance, Andrea Verona of Gas Gas Factory Racing secured the World Championship title in the E2 class with a race to spare.

This victory adds to Verona’s illustrious career, which includes previous titles in the Youth, Junior, E1, and EnduroGP classes.

The demanding 66-kilometre course, set against the stunning backdrop of the Welsh hills, featured a mix of technical challenges and breathtaking scenery.

The race included three rigorous daily special tests, culminating in a spectacular 4.8km Cross Test on Cwmythig Hill, a 4.6km Enduro Test with tricky muddy sections, and a 1.3km Natural Extreme Test at Saintswell Motocross track.

Steve Holcombe (Honda RedMoto Racing Enduro Team) and Josep Garcia (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) were prominent in the EnduroGP class.

Holcombe triumphed on the opening day, but Garcia narrowly clinched victory on the final day, leaving the E1 class title race open for the final round in France. Garcia leads Holcombe by six points in the provisional standings.

Brad Freeman (Team Beta Factory Enduro) excelled in the E3 class, achieving a one-two finish at his home GP. He is now on the cusp of securing the E3 title. Albin Norrbin (Fantic Racing) also delivered an impressive performance, finishing third on the final race day.

In the Junior class, Metzeler-supported Axel Semb (Fantic Racing) earned a commendable third place on Sunday. Additionally, Manuel Verzeroli, supported by Metzeler, was crowned World Champion in the Youth class.

With the Welsh GP complete, the championship will head to Brioude, France, for the final round from September 13 to 15, 2024, where the season’s remaining titles will be decided.
