Drive premium electric with launch of the all-new Nio EL8 SUV in the UAE

Chinese EV maker targets regional expansion

Nio, the Shanghai-headquartered maker of premium smart electric vehicles (EVs), has launched its flagship SUV, the all-new EL8, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The launch, held in the Emirati capital on October 22, 2024, coincides with the recent establishment of Nio MENA, a joint venture with Abu Dhabi-based investment firm CYVN Holdings.

The EL8 symbolises indulgence, combining luxury, technology, and sustainability. Inside, the SUV features eco-friendly materials such as rattan and soybean foam seat cushions and a unique plant-based woven suede headliner, ensuring a pampered driving experience.

Under the hood, the EL8 boasts a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that delivers 850 \Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds. The SUV’s long-range, swappable 100 kWh battery allows for a range of up to 510km.

The EL8, branded as the ES8 in China, is equipped with Nio’s SkyOS platform, a pinnacle of technological advancement. It integrates various functions, from autonomous driving to in-car connectivity. The SUV also features Nomi, an AI system personalising the driving experience.

With its advanced sensing technologies, including the automotive industry’s most effective LiDAR and multiple cameras, the EL8 offers comprehensive situational awareness on the road, impressing even the most tech-savvy stakeholders.

The EL8 is now available for purchase starting at AED359,900. Additional models, including the EC6, a premium mid-size coupe SUV, and ET5, a mid-size competent electric sedan, are set to join the lineup soon.

Mohammed Maktari, CEO of Nio MENA, said: “The launch of the EL8 in the UAE market signifies a new chapter in our mission, ‘Blue Sky Coming,’ as we commit to sustainable innovation and exceptional user experiences in the UAE. We aim to redefine mobility and inspire environmentally conscious practices.”

Now showing in UAE malls

Nio is showcasing the EL8, EC6, and ET5 at the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai until November 6 and at Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi until November 12, allowing potential buyers to experience the innovative vehicles firsthand.

Founded in November 2014, Nio has swiftly become a key player in the EV market, serving over 598,000 users in China and Europe. In 2023, more than 107,000 new users joined the Nio community.

Nio is at the forefront of the sustainable vehicle movement in China, strongly focusing on zero-emission EVs. The company’s innovative battery-swapping technology promotes resource efficiency and extends battery life, while Nio is also exploring renewable energy solutions for its infrastructure. This commitment to sustainability is designed to inspire and reassure environmentally conscious consumers.

Through its Clean Parks initiative, Nio collaborates with organisations like the United Nations Development Programme and the World Wide Fund for Nature to support global conservation efforts.

Nio’s commitment to user experience extends beyond the vehicles themselves. The company emphasises community engagement through the Nio App, which provides remote control and vehicle maintenance services, enhancing the overall ownership experience for Nio users.

As Nio enhances its presence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, the partnership with CYVN Holdings aims to drive technological innovation and advance the transition to sustainable mobility there.

With its regional headquarters firmly established in Abu Dhabi emirate in the UAE, Nio plans to establish local production in the region, marking its first manufacturing facility outside China.

The upcoming Nio House in Abu Dhabi will also serve as a community hub, offering events and a café for users to connect and share experiences involving the innovative premium EV brand.

With its entry into the increasingly competitive Middle East market, Nio is taking on legacy and new-kid-on-the-block EV brands such as Tesla, Audi, BYD, Exeed, Riddara, and other predominantly Chinese EV brands that are aggressively targeting the MENA, Central Asia and Russian markets for overseas sales. This scenario occurs as Chinese automotive manufacturers face restricted entry in the EU and US markets.
