Event is held annually
Nissan Motor Co. is preparing to host the 14th yearly Nissan Connect Race with the Japan Blind Marathon Association on February 16 at the Nissan Technical Centre in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The Nissan Connect Race, a celebrated tradition since its inception in 2012, is designed to create a safe and inclusive environment for runners with visual impairments. The race offers a unique opportunity for blind and visually impaired athletes to compete in middle- and long-distance events, supported by their guide partners. Nissan’s initiative reflects its commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and friendly competition in the world of sports.
On race day, participants can participate in various events, including 2.4 km, 5 km, and 10 km competitive running routes and a 1.5 km walking route for those who prefer a less strenuous challenge. These categories aim to cater to all abilities and ensure everyone, from experienced runners to newcomers, can enjoy the event. The event is also open to elementary school children, provided a guardian accompanies them, further reinforcing Nissan’s goal of bringing the community together through sport.
The Nissan Technical Centre will be closed off for the event, allowing participants and spectators to enjoy a safe and controlled environment for the day. The company aims to host a race and foster a sense of unity among participants, residents, and the broader community. A portion of the entry fee for each participant will also be donated to organisations that provide support and services to individuals with visual impairments.
The Japan Blind Marathon Association, which co-hosts the event with Nissan, has been dedicated to supporting blind runners since 1984. This long-standing collaboration between the two organisations has helped raise awareness and provided opportunities for visually impaired athletes to showcase their talents in a supportive, competitive setting.
Nissan’s commitment to sustainability and inclusivity is central to this event, which reflects its broader aim of creating a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive world for all. Through initiatives like the Nissan Connect Race, the company continues to encourage participation in sports for people of all abilities, fostering a sense of belonging and achievement for everyone involved.
