Nova Eyewear unveils AI-powered progressive lenses tech
Brand set to revolutionise the MENA market
Nova Eyewear, the flagship brand of Vision Rx Lab, a world leader in ophthalmic product manufacturing, has launched cutting-edge AI-powered progressive lens technology in the MENA region. This move is set to transform the ophthalmic market in the region by offering consumers the most advanced eyewear technology to date.
The advanced technology, launching in the region for the first time, premiered at an exclusive event held in Dubai on March 9, 2024.
Speaking on the occasion, Pammi Jamalpuria, Vice President of Corporate Marketing at Vision Rx Lab, noted: “The future is AI, so why should eyewear be an exception?” By way of answer, Jamalpuria explained that progressive lenses often require excessive adaptation to match a user’s way of looking, a process known as ocular dynamics.
Avant-garde AI-powered technology
In this context, Nova, with its avant-garde AI-powered technology, now provides its discerning customers with tailor-made progressive lenses specially developed for every person’s unique way of looking – powered by the most advanced optical technology incorporating AI.

According to Jamalpuria, ocular dynamics, which comprises standard eye-head movements to look at the world, evolves throughout a person’s life with the development of the oculomotor system and in response to environmental stimuli.
By comprehending a person’s unique ocular dynamics, Nova’s AI-powered technology, which includes metamorph – a disruptive technology on its own – can quickly and efficiently understand each person’s unique ocular dynamics.
Jamalpuria said: “Nova AI is the long-awaited technological marvel for consumers seeking highly personalised lenses with unparalleled visual quality, incorporating the latest technological advancements and precision instruments such as Virtual Reality (VR) devices.
“Representing a revolutionary stride in progressive lens technology, Nova AI is a dependable choice for individuals seeking cutting-edge solutions.”
Nova’s newly unveiled AI technology tests a person’s ocular dynamics via a 5-minute VR test conveniently conducted in an optician store or ophthalmic clinic. The brief test collects digital data about the person’s unique way of looking (ocular dynamics) to make an accurate diagnosis, resulting in optimum prescription progressive lenses.

Nova’s AI-powered technology boasts nine key features:
- Customised visual fields are provided for each user as the Nova lens adapts to their ocular dynamics.
- Nova’s innovation is a one-of-a-kind technology recognised as disruptive in the eyecare field.
- Nova lenses evolve and coordinate with a person’s vision by aggregating their ocular dynamics data, showcasing an evolving lens feature.
- Nova ensures maximum aesthetics and lightness by guaranteeing the maximum reduction of the thickness of positive lenses.
- Nova’s optimised inset correctly aligns with the reading zone and improves near vision.
- Optical technology assures visual precision, ensuring sufficient sharpness and accuracy in all gaze directions.
- Tailored for the digital world, Nova’s digital profile technology ensures a comfortable position when using handheld devices.
- Maxi-view technology achieves sharp vision at all distances and reduces unwanted astigmatism by 20%.
- The binocular balancing system achieves the perfect balance by minimising blurriness on both sides of the vision corridor.
Cutting-edge technologies
According to Sivakumar V, Senior Vice President of Vision Rx Lab, the several cutting-edge technologies behind Nova AI include optional digital profile, ocular dynamics, maxi view, cleantech, Digi-contour technology, aberration filter system 2.0, binocular balancing system, multi-aspheric technology, metamorph technology, and variable inset and MFH.
Nova’s AI-powered technology, which the company has now introduced in the MENA region, produces a 100% accurate frequency map of a person’s ocular dynamics, said Adriano Artus, R&D Innovation Director of Horizons Optical, a key technology partner of Nova.
Artus said the AI-powered algorithm that drives Nova’s VR test accurately determines a person’s near, intermediate, and far (distance) vision frequencies from a customer simply wearing a high-tech VR headset seated and viewing a customised digital scenario.
Latest eyewear innovations
In addition to debuting its AI-powered technology at the Dubai event, Nova also showcased its latest innovations for 2024, encompassing its latest collections for aviators, drivers, myopia management, golfers, colour management, fast-changing photochromatic lenses, anti-reflective satin lenses, AR-coated lenses, FSV lenses, next-generation bifocal lenses, and transition lenses.
Headquartered in Kolkata, India, and backed with a sizeable infrastructural set-up of manufacturing labs, including digital labs and service centres, Vision Rx Lab specialises in innovative lens products and world-class optometric solutions in collaboration with world-renowned lens and advanced technology companies.
Nova, Vision Rx Lab’s premium brand, offers a wide range of premium eyewear products, including advanced digital lenses, contemporary frames, Rx sunglasses, and safety eyewear.
Vision Rx Lab exports lenses and complete eyewear solutions to more than 53 countries globally, said Sivakumar V.
The global prescription market was valued at $49.3 billion in 2023 and is anticipated to grow exponentially in 2024, with a CAGR of 4.80% through 2028.
