Riyadh Air orders 60 Airbus A321neo aircraft
Deal signed at FII in Riyadh
Riyadh Air, a newly established airline based in Saudi Arabia, has ordered 60 Airbus A321neo aircraft. The list price for each plane is $58 million.
An agreement to this effect was finalised during the Future Investment Initiative (FII) held in Riyadh. The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Governor of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and chair of Riyadh Air, and key executives from Airbus.
Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air, emphasised the order’s dual benefits: “This investment will not only support economic growth in the aviation industry but will also ensure Riyadh Air operates one of the most fuel-efficient fleets.
“It will be instrumental in helping Saudi Arabia achieve its decarbonisation goals.” He highlighted that this deal underscores the airline’s potential impact on global and local economies, aiding the rapidly evolving Saudi aviation landscape.
Christian Scherer, CEO of Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Riyadh Air. “We are proud to welcome Riyadh Air as a new Airbus customer. The A321neo aircraft will enhance the airline’s operational efficiency, contribute significantly to its decarbonisation objectives, and ensure passenger comfort,” he stated.
The A321neo, the most prominent member of the Airbus A320neo lineup, is known for its impressive range and performance. Equipped with advanced engines and sharklets, the aircraft offers a 50% reduction in noise and over 20% savings in fuel and CO₂ emissions compared to previous single-aisle models while providing the most expansive cabin in its category.
The latest Riyadh Air order adds to a robust portfolio, with over 6,700 A321neo aircraft ordered by more than 90 customers worldwide. It highlights its global appeal and the trend towards more sustainable aviation solutions.
As Riyadh Air embarks on its journey, the commitment to an eco-friendly fleet positions the airline as a forward-thinking player in the competitive aviation market.
