Saudi Arabia Makes Significant Investments in Advancing its Future Space Missions:
According to Fahad Nazer, the spokesman for the U.S. Embassy of Saudi Arabia, the 10-day journey of two Saudi astronauts to ISS, the International Space Station, aligns with the country’s Vision 2030 plan and its objective to initiate its space missions.
During a discussion on The Ray Hanania Radio Show, Nazer mentioned that Rayyanah Barnawi and Ali Alqarni, who are part of the Saudi Space Commission, have made Saudis feel proud. Rayyanah Barnawi is the first female Saudi astronaut.
Barnawi and Alqarni were emulating Prince Sultan bin Salman, who became the first Arab and Muslim to journey to outer space as part of the weeklong Space Shuttle Discovery mission that took off on June 17, 1985.
According to Nazer, the astronauts were able to carry out experiments with 12,000 students in Saudi Arabia. He said there was a live stream and web chat with the students, during which they conducted basic experiments. The speaker stressed that a key objective of space exploration is to motivate male and female Saudi students and encourage their curiosity in science, technology, mathematics, and physics. Nazer hoped that they achieve the mission’s objectives along with these goals.

Nazer shared that the Kingdom has its own Saudi Space Commission that carries out extensive research and has a process in place for identifying and preparing astronauts. He expressed that the pursuit of space exploration aligns with Saudi Arabia’s investments in science, technology, and innovation, which are part of the Vision 2030 initiative. He also added that Saudi Arabia will keep working with NASA, Axiom, and other groups in the near future. He noted that the Kingdom would soon initiate its own space missions
During a radio interview, Nazer discussed Saudi Arabia’s ongoing transformation known as Vision 2030. He described a vision that includes economic and social reforms to achieve multiple objectives. The goals mentioned are to better healthcare, improve education, modernize transportation, and tackle climate change, among other things.
He stressed the importance of putting funds into technology, science, and innovation to achieve these objectives. According to Nazer, Saudi Arabia’s pursuit of space exploration is completely in line with these goals. According to him, the Kingdom has been interested in space exploration for many decades. His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman made history in 1985 by becoming the first Arab and Muslim to travel to space. He was a crew member aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery.
