The Saudi Royal Reserve Authority Joins International Conservation Organization as a Member :
The government announced that the Saudi Royal Reserve Development Authority is now a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The authority received membership in IUCN for their work in helping local communities with nature conservation and wildlife protection. They also worked on restoring important plants and animals in the country.
Promoting Environmental Sustainability: The Impact of The New Membership For Saudi Royal Reserve Authority
Saudi Royal Reserve Authority is among the earliest in the Kingdom to become a member of IUCN. This membership enables it to access international databases focused on safeguarding wildlife, as well as the knowledge of 18,000 professionals associated with the global organization. Now, the authority can make agreements, share information with its members, and take part in the IUCN’s meetings and conferences every four years.
Through this membership, the authority hopes to ensure the sustainability of the environment, which is in line with the vision of the Saudi Green program and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 plan.
Fahad Al-Shuwaier, who is the director general of communication at King Salman Royal Reserve, says that the authority applied for membership by giving a thorough list of all the environmental projects it worked on. Al-Shuwaier shared that the IUCN advisory board meets every three months to look over applications from all over the world.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Bouq, who is in charge of wildlife conservation at the National Center for Wildlife Development, added that joining the IUCN would help them follow the best standards around the world. Al-Bouq used the Archipelago Reserve in the Farasan Islands to show what he meant. UNESCO approved this reserve because it met world standards.
Al-Bouq added that being a member allowed people to access guidelines and learn from the knowledge of numerous global experts. He said that when it comes to talking about biodiversity, it’s important to have a large group of international experts because it’s not possible to find experts in every specific area of biodiversity. He explained that in microbiology, there are experts who specialize in specific branches. In other fields, though, there may not be as many experts.
He said that international organizations are what tie these experiences together. He stressed how vital it is for people from around the world to partner to set standards. He also said that when working with any group focused on protection, the first step is to set a starting point and then look at the global standards you want to meet. Then, make a plan to follow these guidelines.
He expressed that community involvement is the most important part of the system. He added that this is what foreign organizations that focus on protected areas suggest. He also said that the main goal was not to limit access to these places but to manage the eco-friendly use of natural resources.
Takeaways
The Saudi Royal Reserve Authority’s recent membership in the IUCN shows its dedication to protecting nature and wildlife and restoring the environment. This achievement proves that the authority is a leader in conservation and shows how important it is to work with other countries to meet world conservation standards.
